will a rearend from a 73 grand prix fit my 72 cutlass?

Probably not, I don't want to steer you wrong. What you want for sure is a 68-72 rear.

The 73-77 is different animal.

No. The upper control arm ears and spring perches are in a different location then the 72 and older.

rears

even the shock mount are in different locations too. 73-77 are in the front
1964-1972 are in the rear

spring perches are slightly different too.
width is different
upper control arm mounts are different (already stated)

BUT the guts are interchangeable if that helps... you can remove the 8.5 guts and install them into your8.5 71 72 housing. Try that. Jim
