Post 65 olds delta 88 rear axle interchange

I bought this 65 olds delta 88 about 3yrs ago. It has a 425 cid under the hood. It ran great until, the rear axle gave me some problems. I took a look at it and the entire axle housing has expanded out at the axle shaft location. Right now I am in search of looking for a axle to interchange with and what year can I interchange with? Please help.

You might PM Monzaz with your question, apparently he missed this. He might have some information that would help.

65-70 B-body cars (Delta 88, Impala, Bonneville, LeSabre) all have interchangeable axle housings.

65 Delta rear axle interchange

Pontiac and Chevrolet B-body rear axles will not interchange. The Chevrolet uses trailing arms mounted at a completely different angle than the Olds and has the springs mounted on the lower arms instead of the rear end. The Pontiac appears similar, but uses different lower arms in 65-68 (the arm is shaped like a clevis and the bushing is in the rear end instead of the arm) and also has a larger pigtail on the spring end. I also believe the axle is a few inches wider overall. 69-70 big Pontiacs have the Olds style lower trailing arm and spring perch but this axle is definately a few inches wider. I've never checked out the Buick axle interchange so I cannot comment on this.

rear axle interchange

That is all correct. We are working on helping him find a rear either in his area or to maybe fix the one he has. Jim

Pontiac Starfire should work. I want to double check that though. Jim

So, how did u make out on the rear-end problem? 65 & 66 Olds used the "Pontiac" type rear-ends, changed for 1967 to 1970 but the 67-70 will bolt right in. The odd-ball was the Jetstar. Where r u located? Ken
