I currently have an O type rear end with a 3.08 gear and I noticed in a forum that there are rebuild kits for the o type rear end. I'm not sure if I should look for a new rear end or rebuild the old one. I'm also not sure about how much difference a 3.42 (or higher) gear would make in my acceleration but it is a thought. The car is a weekend driver and sees very little highway but I do like the driveability it has now, however I think my goal is to get the car in low 13's high 12's. Any thoughts about my gear options. Thanks.

Chuck, if you go to a numerically higher gear your acceleration will be greater. The downside is, with all other things staying the same, you will not have as high of a top end. Don't feel bad, by Delta has a type O with 2.73:1 gears. I barely turn 2,000 rpm at 70mph. This is an improvement I have been considering. Are those kits complete with new gears and everything? What is the price?

O type rebuild kits

I have them if you need . Pretty sure there are 2 different size 'O' type rears. I believe the a-body 'O' type is different then the full size 'O' type rear. I know the cover gaskets are different. Jim
