10 bolt 7.5 questions

Hey Guys,

Being new to this site and 10 bolt rear ends I've got a few questions.

I've got a rat rod with the 10 bolt under her with 28" tall tires. I did the chalk mark test to find out the gear ratio. With only one tire off the ground...wasn't sure if that mattered or not.
I turned the drive shaft 2 times and the tire turned 1.7 turns. So if my math is right I divided 1by 1.7=.588 x 4= 2.35 that's with 28" tall tires.
So I'm guessing I really have 2.73 gears? If this helps any while I'm going 70mph I'm showing 2K on the tach. This is with a 400 tranny.

I'd like to get a different gear in her and I thought a 3.23 gear would be a better gear and still be good on the highway. I don't think 3.08 would be a big change, the 3.23 just seems better.

I looked in Summit and came across this lower carrier or higher carrier stuff which I figured meant 2 series or 3 series. Am I on the right track with this?

I was going to get a Richmond gear but they don't make the 3.23 2 series gear anymore.
Yukon still does but it's pricey, is Yukon any good?

10 bolt 7.5 2 series 3 series deal

Ok 7.5 carrier breaks are as follows
2.14-3.08 2 series
3.23-4.56 3 series

Yes Yukon gears are good and Richmond is NOT Richmond gear anymore they are now Motive Gear with a Richmond badge.

I can see what I get Yukon gears for as I am a seller for them.

Since yoru carrier is an open it would be cheaper to get a 3 series carrier I have plenty here if you need. YOU just need to know the axle spline count as 1975-1988 were 26 spline 7.5 rears and 1990 -2004 were 28 spline 7 5/8 7.6 rears.... They all really are 7.5 rears when you go to buy gears though.

3.23 3 series will be cheaper to find and maybe you could even find used. I here 3.23 was popular in the mini astro vans back in the day...

Monzaz,

If I'm understanding you right...when you talk about carrier you mean the internal guts right? So the carriers are interchangable within the housing?

All I know so far is my rearend came out of a 80's Cutlass so I'm guessing it would have the 26 spline axles.

Can you give me a price on new Yukon 3:23 gears for a 3 series carrier. Along with a new 3 series carrier.

Question: how do I tell if I have a limited slip or not? If I jack up the ride with both wheels off the ground then what?
