rain gutters

Getting ready to clean up and polish the gutter trim on a 78 salon. Inside, is a black gummy type adhesive in various spots, that I take was used to aid in keeping the trim on and eliminating vibration. This stuff is still very pliable and sticky. From the looks of the car when I got it, this seems to be something from the factory. Anyone have any ideas about what to use to replace it?

3M makes a weatherstripping adhesive that you can get from your local auto parts store. I've never used it before, but I figure it would work well in your application. Perhaps someone else knows for certain...

I used 3M Strip Calk, black and stays sticky and pliable.
You also use it to seal around the trim clips and emblems posts and stuff, seal the door water shields to the doors.
