'71 cutlass - rear seat belt configuration

What is the correct configuration for the bench seat belts in the rear of a '71 Cutlass? Mine have been removed and I've been studying internet images and I'm finding the center seat belts both ways.

There appear to be somewhat more with the adjacent female ends on the driver side, but not by a whole lot.

thank you in advance

These are the ones in my '68 GTO, as configured originally. Maybe someone can verify that they are the same as your '71 Cutlass...

Thank you! If I'm interpreting your picture correctly, you had the adjacent females on the passenger side -- I wonder if there was a strict standard or if the middle belt went on either way. thanks again.

See this very recent thread and my photos of a 69 442 conv rear seat. Your 71 should be the same. This also matches exactly what was shown for the 68 GTO.

Your interpretation is correct, and on my pic GM put them in that way. They're just like 69442C did them. I don't know about variations, but I'll bet that, because this is a safety item, these things were pretty consistent.

Same layout here in a '70 Cutlass Supreme, just with more cash laying around than on 69 Ragtop's image: Found 10$ 78 cent today.

Thank you all. Adjacent females on the passenger side and the center belt goes underneath the side belts on both sides. Check, got it!

Now, just got to get the belts back from Ssnake Oyl. My 3 kids (8, 9 and 12) will be sitting in the back, so this is an important item.

I always try to think about what was going on on the line. In my mind, one assembler did one side and one did the other side. When it came to the center belt, the passenger assembler was trained to put on a female buckle and the driver assembler put on the male. Different plants may have done it differently, but I doubt it.

It must be nice to be thinking about seat belts. My Cutlass is sitting under a tarp, waiting for me to get done with the '55 Chebby truck from hell!

You're correct. Parts are on the sides they go on on the line, and there is a standardized work order.
