Technology and your memory

So on another board there was a discussion about Teddy K leaving us and some one brought up the band Dead Kennedys. Instantly my mind jumps back to my early teen days in the 80's as a skater punk. I can still remember the 7-8 of the whole songs line by line. I can still remember a phone number my grandmother had 25 years ago.

I can't remember my wifes cell phone without looking it up in my cell today.

Is it technology making our minds lazy or just getting older?

Yes, though it bothers me more that you were a teen in the 80s.

Seriously, it's all repetition. How many times did you listen to those songs, vs. how many times have you actually dialed your wife's number by hand?

If it makes you feel any better I did not get out of my teens until the 90's were well under way

I got out of my teens way back when "party" was a noun.

I still remember the # we had when I was 10 years old , back then you didn't have to worry about hitting the right buttons but getting your finger in the right holes. Of course you first had to pick up the phone and listen to make sure no one else was already on the party line. I had my first calculater when I was in grade 12 , texas instruments , real high tech but they didn't let you use them in class or doing tests cause it was considered cheating.
