This one is for the birds...and Rob

I hope there are other bird lover's out there in Olds land! We have 9 - 10 inches of snow, and the birds are flocking to the feeders like crazy! I can spend hours watching them! I had to fill up the feeders again this afternoon. Rob, I thought you would enjoy seeing the snow... the birds just got in the way! LOL!!

Those are outstanding pictures but this Texan is getting cold looking at the pictures. You really have a nice view with all the snow. It is supposed to be in the teens here at the end of this week. Hopefully now snow or parcipitation. Thanks for sharing these.

Very cool pics,I can appreciate your fondness of the birds...nature is very nice until it starts costing you $$$.
I have this woodpecker that comes around during the spring and summer...he's poking holes in the wood siding on my house. Not just 1 or 2 or a few holes, more than I can count,he's ruining my siding.

Any idea how to keep him away?

Wow... Those pictures are great - even if the birds got in the way!
Love that soft fluffy snow. It is rare here in TX.
Good shooting skills, too. What kind of camera with what zoom do you have?
I have lots of cardinals also. There are some who have fun all day figuring out what they see in the car mirrors! They stand on the window sill, look into the mirror, peck at it, jump on to the mirror, notice the 'bird' was gone, back to the sill, peck at the bird, and repeat this for hours and days and days. I have lots of sparrows and finches, too, along withthe ground cleaning doves, too. I did finally squirrel-proof the feeders, so sometimes i watch them try to get the the food and fall to the ground!

I've got 25 inches so far, your further south Sandy.

I was out at six this morning blowing another foot of the stuff off the drive.
I'm really out of breath and can hardly pucker up my lips anymore.

That was the camera on Sandy's rifle scope that she used to take the pics.
We never see the aftermath.
There's probably a deer hanging from the hook for the punching bag next to her car in the barn.

Those lousy Bluejays wait around the feeders and wait for other birds to come so they can attack and eat them.

Here are a few pics of snow and two of my wonderdogs.

The snowman is snowed in.
I hope nobody gets too envious of my chrome gazing ball, I'm not trying to show off.
I bring the pink flamingo in the house for the winter.

I'm going to go up on the roof to hang out and enjoy nature for awhile now.

I saw a pair of male cardinals yesterday (or else the female was awfully bright red) yesterday in the snow. They looked so cool and I had not noticed too many cardinals this year until then. I thought having a bird feeder would be cool but we have way to many squirrels in our neighborhood and I don't want to encourage them to make my yard an hang out of choice.

I guess it would be inappropriate to share my Morning Dove recipes here? Huh?

Bye the bye,

What kind of trees are those in the pic with your gate and well?

Thank you Jamesbo! I hate dirty windows!!! The Ultimate Cloth makes it much easier to keep 'em clean now!!!

No recipies, please! I love the mourning doves. Those are Maple trees in the backyard. We have a flowering Cleveland Pear beside the shed, and several apple, peach, pear, and cherry trees behind the shed. Larry has taken down a lot of the trees way in the back by the hill with the pines.

Great pictures Sandy. I really like the Cardinals don't have them here. Are bird feeders are standing room only 20 lbs a month. We have 4 large pileated wood peckers !5" tall at least, also hairy & downy woodpeckers lost of dead alders so they don't bother the house or other trees. Lots of smaller birds as well. I enjoy watching them from my office window

I think ya got enough "hot air" in ya to blow it off the drive one more time today!! LOL!! God it's a mess out there today. Rt. 91 has to be the worst roads I've ever driven on! We probably have around 18 inches of snow this morning. It never stopped yesterday!

There was a police escort this morning for the snowplows... 2 cop cars in front with lights flashing, 3 plows behind, stagered across 91 to plow the 2 lanes and the middle turning lane, 2 more plows behind those ones! The intersections are the worst... they plow the parkways out on to 91, and it gets that piled up slushy deep crap that makes your car go wherever it wants to when you go through it. I hate it. Nicole won't be driving to school this week! I have to take her to some parking lots at some of the businesses around here, and let her practice in this crap where there's no traffic!! Scares me!!!

You're funny! I wasn't looking through a rifle scope! I did chase a deer off Wednesday night that was out there in the yard! Homey - our tennant next door - has gotten 2 of them with his compound bow so far!!!

The Blue Jays do get mean!! They squak a lot too. In the spring and summer they're out there real early squaking. Makes it hard to sleep in!

I like your pics!! I like your dogs! They look like they are enjoying the snow. Your poor snowman looks like he's there until the spring thaw! LOL!! We got all the yard decorations out of the yard last Wednesday while it was still mushy enough to get them out of the ground. I spent the weekend un-decorating inside the house and putting things away. Looks so bare now!

I think I read in the Retched Courier that a home in Streetsyltucky is missing one of their many chrome gazing *****? Now I know where it went!! I won't tell!!

Thanks Citcapp! Someday when I live in Arizona, I will miss the Cardinals! They are my favorite, and I don't think they have them in Az.? We have them here all year round. They really like the sunflower seeds!

I love the big woodpeckers! Our house is brick, but I have never seen one come up to the house. Some of the trees way in the back of our yard have big holes where they peck. I took a pic of a downy pecker drinking out of my Hummingbird feeder last summer or the summer before! I never saw anything like that before! I didn't know they like the nector? The flying pigs - as Larry calls them - were all out in full force this morning before I came to work. I had 4 sets of Cardinals out there on Saturday. They do not like each other!! All the males chase each other!

My daughter makes fun of me for watching the birds and taking the pictures. I'll watch them for hours! I find it very de-stressing!!

Nice pics, Sandy! As our back yards are not too far apart, we have pretty much the same view. We keep a few feeders going in the winter (thank you Tractor Supply), and that is the view I get in my office at home. Have a quince bush/tree next to the window where they love to sit, virtually an arm length away. Those redbreasted woodpeckers love the suet!
Out west of Cleveland, we have a lot less snow, though!!

The snowman may be there until Easter.

Those thrush muffler/woody woodpeckers do a job on my barn siding going after bugs.

The west side?
Is that the place on the other side of that river where the airport is and has train tracks going across the roads everywhere?

Like my alternate Poncho ride?
That thing screams for one of those things and I don't know why?
You look down at the speedo and you're going 70 in two seconds.

I stay away from route 91 in good weather Sandy, only get on it to go to the fairgrounds for fleas or swaps.
I take the back way down through Streetsyltucky on the street by the Bob Evans? and then hang a left by the splitrail fenced pasture and big house, (I get lost going around the block).
I try to avoid going through that quaint dump of Hudson.
The one good thing about Hudson is that the vintage battery place is just south of the freeway down that street on the left there, I think?

Threw a chain on one of the tractor tires this morning and Redgoat could be heard saying some choice words.

I'm glad you liked them!! I'll have to look at my cameras when I get home and let you know about them. They're both Sony. Most of the pics I took with my little Cybershot, full zoom on! I leave them both on Auto focus. My bigger Sony has some kind of big lens attached. You know me... technologically challenged! I just like to point and shoot!

I have a lot of sparrows and finches too. The Goldfinches are a drab brown right now... they turn beautiful yellow in the spring. I keep thistle seed for them since that's what they like to eat. They do like the sunflower seeds too, though. Knock on wood, so far the squirrels haven't been around! I hate those darned things! I feel bad when the birds fly in to the reflective glass here at work. That happens once in a while. Occasionally one will sit on the sill and peck at it's reflection! Funny!!

Nice pictures Sandy, My wife loves the birds as well so we have quite a few feeders as well. I personally like birds but not during warm weather when they could do a number on the Cutlass.

The way it's snowing... it may be there till Memorial Day! I swear there's another 3 inches on my car out here, since I got to work at 9:00!! It hasn't quit. Wish I had my camera... I'd take some pics for Rob. I have my phone camera, but don't know how to get pics from the phone to the computer? I'm sure there's a cord or something for that somewhere!

I have to bundle up and go shovel beside and in front of the car - these lazy guys here didn't shovel this morning, and when I got out of my car and went around in front to the sidewalk, the sidewalk is no where to be seen, and the snow went up to my knees! It's a good thing I'm not one of those helpless females!

I think you're talking about Rt. 303 - behind Bob Evans. I try to stay out of historical Hudson too. It's a PITA trying to get through there, especially around the rush hours. Traffic backs up for miles! When I go to the cruise in, I take the back way and avoid downtown.

Well I had my lunch, so out to shovel I go before the worthless guys get back! TTYL!!

I know what you mean!!! I hate it when they crap on my car! I keep the cutlass in the garage most of the time, but if they "go" on my Intrigue, I'm out there with water cleaning it off fast as I can! LOL! The guys here think I'm nuts!

Think you're nuts Sandy??
I bet those guys sneak out when you're not watching with their secret poo-on-command trained parrot and let it leave it's mark then take bets on how long it will take before you see the offensive material on your car and get a bucket of water.
You don't see them all gathered at the windows with stopwatches to get the precise time when the water hits the car ???

That bird stuff can eat through your clearcoat fast, especially if the birds ate Mexican.

You can e-mail the pics to yourself from your phone?
Don't ask me how, my girls do it that way.
I only use my cell phone if I really have to, nobody but family has my number and then it better be important if they call, not even Redgoat knows that number.

We have pretty much woods behind the house, so they tend to leave the buildings alone, and we can enjoy them.

Heck, the (big) airport is way east of here!
Most Northern Ohio residents are either "east side oriented" or "west side oriented". I lived on the "east side" for 13 years (that leaves a lot of years left for those counting) too, so I'm familiar with both sides.

Your wife is from our world??? That's funny!!! I like cream of wheat! I'm just too lazy to make it! Have to wash the pot before it dries on there... I know they make instant, but it's not as good. I do like instant oatmeal! I had Cinnamon Spice oatmeal this morning with my yogurt! Yummm!

I like grits too... with butter! I like maple syrup on my pancakes.

I never had cane syrup or chewed sugar cane either, LOL! I use Splenda in my coffee and on my cereal!

How'd we get from birds to food?

Oh yeah, the mourning Doves [but we can't go there]

Well that's sum'en we all have in common. Grits and cream of wheat both turn to concrete if left in the pot.

I had me some fried grits the other day. [No not deep fried]

Ya takes your left over grits and put them in a loaf pan and put them in the Frigidaire. Next maw'in ya slice 'em into rectangular patties and dunk 'em in some beaten eggs to coat 'em and saute them in butter.

Yummy

It sure doesn't seem to be stopping Sandy?

I'll be out blowing the drive off again soon, still hardly caught my breath from last time.
Laura got the studded snow tires on her car just in time.
Everybody tells her they're illegal, from November to April they aren't.

She's mad at me and my older daughter just because we said she looked like Jabba the Hutt in a bad Xmas pic and my daughter photoshopped her face on his body...and put it online.

I'm worried big time right now.

A long ago girlfriend of mine just asked Laura for a friend request thing on Facebook.
She has at least four hyphenated last names now too.

Dove is yummy! My neighbor goes out to the city limits and hunts them in late summer. Heck we have so many here in the backyard, he would not even have to leave the house to bag his limit. It tastes a little like shish-ka-bobbed chicken...

You like cream o' wheat???
I thought I did when I was a kid. I recently bought a variety box and found that it really tastes like crap. I guess my mom mixed other stuff with it too.
PM me your address and I can send it to you FOC. Otherwise, I might mix it up, let it dry and make bricks out of it.

There is a woodpecker here that is a bit tipsy. I see it pecking on the steel utility poles, wondering why he is not making holes...

You might want to call an exterminaor, I'd guess termites or wood ants, woody isn't pecking holes just for kicks

Sounds like Redgoat may be in trouble, huh?? LOL! Maybe the girls can compare notes!!! Does Laura know? Ya better quit makin fun of her while you're ahead!!! I don't know how to work facebook. I made an account, but I don't go on it very often. My daughter is on there... keep your eye on her! On second thought, nevermind!

Jean puts her studded snow tires on the Delta every winter too! I'd like to have some! I got new tires last January after I was on my way to work and creeping at a whole 10-15 miles per hour straight down Rt. 82, and somehow all of a sudden I ended up turned sideways in the left lane with on coming traffic headed straight at me! I was never so scared in all my life!! I cried. I was shaking like a leaf! I had to back up in to my lane again - luckily the pick up that was coming at me when I ended up in his lane was able to take it up on the curb and get around me!

I hate snow and ice! I swear it's snowed for 40 days and 40 nights already! Just took this off my local weather on the computer. GOD!!!!

That is scary Sandy.
Glad to hear nothing worse happened.
Maybe you should look into some studded snows on the front at least?
I think I studded a million tires when I worked at gas stations.

I like rear wheel drive in the snow, can't teach an old dog new tricks.
I had a 1967 Grand Prix convertible with snow tires and a 220V 1958 Sears through-the-wall air conditioner I ripped out at a job in the trunk and that baby would go anywhere in the snow. I gave the air conditioner to the mechanic at work and the stinkin' thing worked after being bounced around for months.
I would have sold it to him if I would have known.
I like whipping the rear around corners with a little gas and steering out of slides intead of having to accelerate and steer with that newfangled FWD, it's all backwards?
Doughnuts aren't as good unless you use the e-brake.

They say this snow is going to go on until Monday at least.
I had to dig paths and clear areas so the dogs could go, they're females and it can get cold in that deep snow when they have to get down and do their thang.
I had a standard poodle that would balance on her front legs and her back legs would be in the air when she went.
Try it some time, it ain't easy.

Thanks, but I think I'll pass on trying that! LOL!! The poor thing!! I shoveled out to and under the bird feeders, and Doodle came out and was tip toeing around... he went in to the flower bed along side the house and was digging in there. He didn't look very happy! His belly drags in the snow. He doesn't like it at all!

Jean puts bags of water softener salt in the trunk for weight in her Delta, and with the studded tires on the back it goes pretty good.

It's still snowing here. I have the news on and they said Bainbridge has 27 inches! This sucks. The 8 day forecast just shows more snow and temps in the teens towards the weekend.

Nicole is hoping school will be closed tomorrow.... they just had 2 friggin weeks off! I'm not looking forward to driving at 6:30 am to the school and back. It took forever to get home tonight - 91 was just a mess. Semi's tractor wheels spinning when the lights would turn green... I was happy to get home! When I left work, the front end of my little car was buried in the snow! It took me about 15 minutes to clean her off.
Clay (the texan) was laughin at me... he said "you don't have to give her a bath, just clean off the windows"!! I take all the snow off. It makes me crazy to be behind someone that leaves the snow piled on top of their car, and it blows off all over, and they don't clean off their tail lights either. Man! I don't like it blowin off my hood either. Guess I'm just **** like that!!

Sandy, nice bird pictures! Some of the goldfinches here are still yellow. I bought a new foot long sock this year and fill it full of thistle seed. Those little birds will stack up 15 or more on it while others hang out on the walnut tree waiting for a spot to open up It only takes 2 or 3 days for them to clean it out.

The most exotic bird we get here is the Orioles (Sp?). The first time I looked out at the hummingbird feeder to see the large bright yellow bird drinking from it I didn't know what to think! I understand on the West Coast this is as far north as they come. So I just have to make more sugar water when they're around!

We have hummingbirds that stay all year here. Even with the winter temps getting into the single digits on rare occassions. When I lived North of here near Mt. Jefferson I used to put out three feeders when they were migrating. It seems like I would have one or two dozen of the little birds whizzing around and fussing with each other in my backyard for a few weeks.

Birdseed is cheap, and it's fun to see what comes by at different times of the year. John

That is way cool!! I wish we had hummers all year! I love them!! The most I've ever had are 4. I've had them come right up to me and buzz around when I've been out on the deck. They are so neat! I've stood still for a long time trying to get pics of them. I'll have to find some I've taken and post them. I love the gold finches too... they are so bright and pretty! Glad you enjoyed my pics!

How do you take a pic of your camera?

Smoke and mirrors?

Lots of mirrors.
Now if there is smoke, the camera must be broke!

CG - can you post a model number for the camera and lens attachment? I like those... I want to look them up and see the tech specs.
I have some add-on lenses for my Canon S2 but not the extra zoom. I thought 12x from the camera would be enough, but looking at your birdie pictures, I want more.
They make a zoom lens for mine which I need to research and want to compare to yours. Thanks!

Rob... I will do so tonight. The big camera came just like it is.... Larry got it for me on Ebay a few years ago. The lens was already on it. You can manually focus or use the auto focus. I use Auto all the time. I think it says 5X on the lens in red, but I will let you know later. I took these icicle pics this morning with my little Cyber-Shot.
