I've told this story a few hundred time but please hang in there
I had an uncle that landed with the 1st wave at Omaha Beach [engineer battalion ] He made it home, married raised a family, became a successful commercial artist, Loved to play golf and was a very jocular guy.
Only he ever went to any beach, No Florida no beach anywhere.
No sand and surf since D-day

I remember as a kid there was a parade in honor of a lot of WW battles. Hardly anyone unfortunately recognizes the terrible losses that took place to keep our freedoms. Its a shame Jaunty, not many WW2 vets left.

Let's never forget those guys saved the world. I had the honor of meeting and 93 year old Marine (in 2014) and carrying him in the Veterans Day Parade in my Olds in Dallas in 2014. We became friends and stayed in touch. He passed away in April of 2019. I had visited with him about two months before he passed away. I just wish I had known him longer. Thanks for posting these links guys. Now look at the country today. God Bless The USA.

Yes, its good to pause and remember. My Dad and all my Uncles were in WWII. A couple Aunts worked in the shipyards. They are all gone now, but I have pictures to remind me what they endured for us.

Each year on this date I read the first letter (dated 22 Oct 1942) my father (BM2c U.S. Navy) wrote (after crossing the Atlantic Ocean the first time) to his mother three days after his arrival at Madeira, Africa - where they established the Second Front of the European campaign. After his return to England to resupply, he then crossed the Atlantic Ocean a second time arriving @ Omaha Beach for the Big Invasion. Four of my Mom's five brothers all served in WWII (and, Korean War). Truly a great generation.

My Grandfather served in WW2 as a C.B. in the Pacific Theater. He signed up when he was in his middle thirties. After losing his two and only brothers. Both were Merchant Seamen to the German Wolf Packs in the Atlantic.

My uncle was at 5 major battles and this was one of them. He was awarded a Presidential Citation, Bronze Arrowhead,5 Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. I lost track of his age but he is over 100 and is taking care of his wife now. He never talks about it and to my knowledge, this is the only thing he has ever made public and was because he was asked to for the paper many years ago. Sadly, I do not have a better scan of this.

My Dad served as a bomber mechanic in England during WW2.
I recently read a book called "D-Day; through German eyes".
What they saw landing on the beaches you could tell it was inevitable they were going to lose. Especially fighting the Russians on the other front.

Russians fought along side Ukranians and others in the Soviet army.
Declaring war on the U.S. just because Japan did was his dumbest move. Especially, because Japan didn't first discuss the issue with the Iron Mustached One. This led to needless loss of life on both sides

Was honored to give a WWII vet a drive by birthday celebration last Mon. He is 100. Had a great uncle that was in the second wave on one of the beaches. He ended up going through the Battle of the Bulge and ended his service driving some general around.

I can sure use one of those, here in "liberated" Europe. Especially, when wandering into a No-Go Zone. Visit any urban center, over here. Then tell me that they look like countries who won a war. You know, if the Germans now wanted to destroy London nowadays, they no longer would need to fly in V-2 rockets to do so. It would be much easier just to sit back and do nothing at all, in order to reach that same objective
