62 Cutlass Convert

I have a 62 F85 Cutlass Convertible. It sat for 40 years on the susp in storage and I will be replacing springs and shocks. I have never had the car on the road and don't really know where it rides on standard springs . The only spring offered by anyone is the standard springs with no HD option other than the rear station wagon springs which are 237Rate vs the other models at 160Rate. Fronts are the same for all models. No Moog available but Eaton Detroit Spring has a them at $250 and Fusick at $160. Eaton can also supply a 1" lowered spring which will have a stiffer rating/lower deflection/lower center of gravity for vehicle/less lean/better handling. Putting 205x60 or 65 x 15s on it.

Question is, any preference for Eaton vs. Fusick for the money? And anyone know if the car can handle a 1" drop and still align.

The tire size appears to clear but may be an issue with lowered springs and I'll be looking at that also.

Any thoughts on these issues are appreciated.

Before I went with air bags I had eaton 2" drop springs on my impala. They are definetly worth the money. It drove as comfortable as stock if not better.

Appreciate it, hanks for the info. Any issues with getting into alignment? How did the lowered spring ride height compare to the original, I guess worn out spring ride height?

The alignment wasn't an issue, ride height compared to worn out stock springs was almost identical with a 2" drop, maybe a 1/2" lower.
That's why I went with air bags. Love the way it rides now.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like ride height might be about right since tires clear with the old springs.

Sorry, maybe I am not understanding, but if it drove well with the 2" drop springs why did you go to air bags?

Anyone with experience with new springs on a 61-63 F85/cutlass?

I wanted it lower, I was kind of disappointed when I put the springs on and ride height didn't change much.

Best be patient, not many of these cars around. IMO. Most seem to be original. Your probably on your own.

Patience is a virtue, or at least necessary, with info and parts for these cars. Appreciate the feedback you guys. That Impala is a bad looking ride, low and wide.
