No offense but i smell and see a BS flag waving around here lol. Its obviously not all original and no one in there right mind would pay 12k for this car, ESPECIALLY one that isnt running.

If that supposed 12k offer is real any sane person would have taken the cash and ran with it. Stop blowing smoke i say... Just my 2 cents

Son of a gun, you are all correct. I'm looking at it right now: casting # is 395558. A 350. Wonder why it's so darn fast?

Guess I'd better revise my posts above!

Done. I do agree that if you have someone really interested in the car for $12,000 I'd sell it for that. The other option would be to keep it, clean it up and just enjoy driving it. That's my 2 cents worth. John

Can someone please tell me how to take the accelerator pedal off, so I can remove the front carpet for cleaning. Thanks.

The pedal just snaps over 2 ballstuds in the floor. Pull hard straight up - a little WD-40 might help.

Thanks much, figured the gas pedal out already with persistent googling, and pulled the front carpet, last Saturday, took it and had it steam-cleaned. Could not get the bolts off which hold the stanchions for the front seat belts on, so could not remove the rear carpet, but the detail shop (Polished Image Detailing, Tacoma WA) can bring a truck to the car and clean the rear carpet, and the rest of the interior, in place, at a surprisingly affordable price.

Also I have been looking into dyes for restoring the rear floor mats to something close to original color. A supply shop in Tacoma, LDI, has a dye by SEM that looks pretty close to the backs of the rear floor mats. The front floor mat steam-cleaned up pretty nicely, so I think we'll leave it alone.

Did you ever find the front blinker lenses and right-hand script?

I thought I suggested a pro - for the interior!
Maybe it's got the towing option - to make it faster!
Had a 65 Jetstar I with that option - 4:33 gear!

Polished Image was recommended to me by the manager of Griot's Garage in Tacoma. There is a complex of affiliated shops within three blocks of it, including a Salatino's body shop, an upholsterer, and the corporate flagship store of Austin's Pro Max, which sells restored classics.

Is there some reason why you do not regard them as "pro"?

An ex-owner of an Olds dealership tells me that there is probably an options sheet on the floor underneath the rear bench seat. But my sister will not permit me to remove the bench.

I have invited Rambow to come take a look at the car.

She let you take the front seat out but not the rear?

To clean the rear seat properly you need to remove it so you can get at the corners completely.

Not the front *seat*, the front *carpet*.

The mildew smell is greatly reduced, now that the front carpet is clean.

Griot's garage sells a "chlorine bomb" which is claimed to eliminate odor from slight cases of mildew, such as afflicts the rear carpet and rest of the interior. Does anyone have any experience with this product?

I had a Delmont with "Oldsmobile" on the bumper too (not the one I have now). It could have been an add on option. The Delta bumper only had two lenses, the Delmont had 4 , like the pic.

He actually recently put it up for sale locally on craigslist in the last few weeks asking $10k... Same pics of it inside the garage, which tells me he has not got it on the road.

Due to my newborn daughter, I couldn't get away to drive down and look at it.

Back when the thread was active, I sent him an e-mail with some suggestions on how to apprach the sale & "cleanup" effort- never got a reply back.

I have a feeling he didn't agree with my thoughts on the matter (or the thoughts of most people who replied to this thread w/ suggestions).

Obviously the buyer he thought he had lined up that was willing to pay big bucks flaked out, and as expected, there is not a line of people looking to buy that car at the price he thinks its worth.

I'm sure its a nice car, and with a little effort to get it running & driving, would bring between $4k-$7k to the right buyer.... But this is not 2006, and that is not a 68 Camaro, or even an Impala, so he needs to get real with his expectations- especially if its not in a condition that someone could hop in & drive away.

Just my $.02

For comparison sake, there is a nice clean 67 Delmont 88 Convertible, factory 425 car, running & driving for $5500 also for sale locally on craigslist. I'll be its gone in a week.

You probably hit the nail on the head there Ben! Whygo to a site for advice from people who are passionate and knowledgable about a certain brand of car, and then not accept it? Guess he wanted everyone to lie to him and tell him he's got the next '71 hemi Cuda convertible....by the way, congrats on the new daughter...makes two kiddies now doesn't it?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/cto/3186804144.html

Satin interior in excellent condition. Was detailed before it was parked, has been parked for approximately 10 years in garage. Car is exceptionally fun to drive, will pass anything on the road but a gas station!!! Car is original, all numbers match. Clean title. Second owner. Still has the same mileage as stated in the first post of this thread back when it wasn't running (and was worth more), haw haw!

Definitely a sharp car though....$3000 upgrade?! That would make that car the same price as a vette then....but not as fast with that low comp 350........

"cornflower blue (a $3,000 upgrade in 1968!)" blah, blah, blah...

That car is sapphire blue poly, a standard color for all 68 Olds except Toronado, with a parchment vinyl top, which was a $110 option.

"cornflower blue (a $3,000 upgrade in 1968!)"

Wow.

So that color doubled the $3,202 MSRP of the car.

That must be a great color.

The guy seemed like a loser when he was posting, and now it's clear he's a liar as well.
I hope he doesn't come back.

There is one born every minute, I'm sure somebody will pay that, or close to it.

The only advantage I see in the sale price is that it is a Delmont 88 which was only made for 2 years
