1977 Pace car
Solid driver that has been stored inside. Serviced carb and trans. New tires. Rear fillers replaced but not painted. Very clean interior. All systems operate including the cruise. Certainly needs repaint for show as it’s thin in places but no rust. $5500. Photos are not loading so email dead@mchsi.com or I will retry later. Thank you for the interest, the car is SOLD. Headed back to Lansing. Thanks Craig, see you at the next homecoming.

More info.... this car sold originally in IN and was under coated. By the lack of rust I assume it wasn’t used regular if at all during winters. Paperwork I do have is the rear coils, tires, carb and transmission was rebuilt in 2007 and approx miles since is under 1000 miles. This car starts almost immediately with a couple pedal pumps. Comes off idle easy and shifts flawlessly. No drag or hesitation. Tires are full tread and zero flat spots, dry rot or cracks. This car tracks true and does not pull while braking with hands off the wheel. The high fan relay was replaced and is out again. Max AC therefore kicks out but the system still works one click below full fan speed. Cool but not ice cold so R12 needs a boost. And yes it is still R12. Zero dents on the aluminum hood, roof and decklid. Small dents on both front rear 1/4 panels just past the door jamb and should be fixable by paint less dent repair as they are not creased. A couple dents at the rear quarters outward and I suspect it was a non fastened bumper jack at some point. Again, should be worked out easy without any filler needed. The only piece of trim really needing replaced imo is the driver side windshield garnish. It has a slash in the aluminum that lines up with the wiper arm so I think it pushed an object against it and damaged the edge. It does not leak water there or anywhere. The seals are still tight and soft. Any questions contact me here or droldsmobilemuseum.com

That is a beautiful original car. I thought the lamps looked "whiter" before I'm sure it was the flash as you said.
Beautiful rear bumper with correct all black bumper strip - Suggest show it from the front too
Black trunk key cover
Beautiful door panels
Most of the air cleaner decal still there is super nice
the passenger side rear taillight valence droops inboard just like mine does
What do you think about those floormats - are they OEM? I don't rightly know what those should look like...? I bought mine from original owner with red mats that had five-pointed stars at the top, the seller said they were aftermarket...
what do the upper corners of the door seals look like ?
how many miles ?
great car GLWS

Also, the AC issue I traced down to the relay lead. It is operating correctly now. Normal AC operates at full fan and the default max AC operates. I traced down the fuel economy meter hose and it’s not plugged so my guess is the actual meter needs serviced to operate correctly.

1977 Delta 88 Indy Pace Car
Hello deadds: Nice car for sure. I would love to have one of these. The floor mats look like the original style to me and look the same as our 78-80 Delta Royals had when new with the color matching the interior. Just FYI: I watch car auctions and keep track of nice Olds that sell. This nice 77 88 Indy car came to the block with no reserve and sold at Mecum Indianapolis auction May 2019 for $6,000. I don't know the miles. They reported the 403 was rebuilt which is a concern because it should not have a needed a rebuild looking at the excellent interior it did not seem to have 400,000 miles or some high number. I don't know the option list, but with a moonroof it likely had other options. Seller included paperwork records, the window sticker and reported to be a one owner car.
Your car sure looks well equipped and I like the factory gauges. Do you have additional records other than the recent repairs? How many owners? It sure look well cared for in that garage with other Olds brothers and sisters! How about a window sticker? Those cars just ride so nice and that is a special example. GLWS Regards, Trent in Los Angeles

Wish this came up for sale back in December of last year! I was looking for one of these for a while with no success and then decided to buy a 1978 Delta 88 Holiday 88 coupe instead. Although...this would look good in my garage next to my 1978. Hmmmm... My wife would probably throw me out and I'd be living in the car.
Great car. GLWS.

77/78 Delta
Hi 78Cutlass 4 speed: 78 Holiday is also a nice car for sure. Hope you got the bucket seat option. Just think, if you bought the 77 Pace Car, you would have two places to live!! Have you posted photos of the Holiday? Regards, Trent in Los Angeles

I find myself coming back to this listing over and over again. The car looks like a great driver and I'm sure it would bring a crowd of people at any local cruise night. I know I've never seen one in person at any show I've been to in the last 25+ years! The Firethorn Red interior looks to be in great shape. I'm sure the 403 has enough grunt to get this up and moving fairly quickly considering it only has a 2.41 rear. Can you post a picture of the cowl tag and maybe a couple showing the undercarriage? How's the exhaust? Brakes?
The only thing that would make this car better would be the W43 Pace car decal package. Are the graphics still available? If not, how about repros?
Great car!

1977 Delta 88 Indy Pace Car
Hi 78Cutlass4speed: I have seen several of these in person over the years. A friend of mine bought one new and it was trailered to shows where I looked it over many times. They had some posters made up showing the history which made the show presentation even better. They are very neat cars. We had several Delta Royal four doors back in the day and they are just nice cars. This car has a great combination of options: gauges, tilt, cruise, power windows/locks, and the nice seat with an arm rest. Buckets would be cute, but the arm rest/console lid is at the wrong height. Then you add the rare Indy Pace Car option. This would be a nice car to use as a show car because most people at shows have no idea about this car. Hope is does not get daily driver duty because of the risk of being on the road often. I don't know the seller, and have no interest in the sale. It seems to be well kept in their garage. It would be nice to have some maintenance records for the car and especially the window sticker and dealer invoice. Hope this car finds a Oldsmobile collector. Regards, Trent in Los Angeles.

Hello: Here I am again as well. I sent this link to a buddy Mike looking for an Olds collector car. He would give it a good home, keep your fingers crossed it works out. Regards, Trent in Los Angeles

I’m in Ontario on holiday wth spotty connections. I have undercarriage photos I will try to post but it may have to wait till next Sunday. Brakes are fine, I can take my hands off at 30mph and it doesn’t pull. No holes in the exhaust. This car was under coated so while it was protected and my guess is sparingly used if at all during winter, it’s clearly not in judging condition. Again, just a very nice solid no excuse car.

Also, I believe Phoenix graphics have the main decals but not the actual pinstripe decals. Those I think were reproduced by Jeff Croce if I’m remembering right. I don’t see him listed in the jwo directory for being the pace car go to guy but old issues would have an old contact number. Don’t know if he’s still around as it’s been years since we spoke. Google him?

Very clean undersides. Are those new rear springs? Rear shocks look fairly new, also. The cowl tag photos shows the code W44 which all the pace cars had. The real deal. Very nice car.

I still look at this listing every day! I keep looking over the pictures and like what I see. This is a great car. The price is right but... unfortunately, the timing is wrong. Love the car.

Forgot to add, the doors on this 88 close very nicely. Guys in the know know most of these big 2 door GM are hard to catch. This car just needs a firm push, no multiple attempts or slamming to latch. Just sayin.

Talked to a guy who was at the Mecum auction in May and he said the pace car there was a documented parade car at Indy. However he passed on it due to door and trunk rust. Apparently the outer skins on the doors had gotten to the point where they were separating and could be pulled apart. I guess there must be a premium on the paperwork.

1977 Delta 88 Indy Pace Car
Hi Deadds: Very interesting information, thanks. Of course, a documented track car is more interesting as a collectible and likely worth more money. Doors are available and it would be nice to find an original gray door(s) and trunk for replacements. However, they will still need the Indy Pace Car graphics painted on the car which won't be original. I sure hope the auction track car gets a good home as well as yours. They should be well preserved as a part of Oldsmobile and racing history. That full size downsized GM platform is a good car in many ways and the Olds version has many good features. Maybe GM Archives can produce some papers for your car to document a Pace Car from the factory and if it had any interesting history? Regards, Trent in Los Angeles
