That car would look so good repainted in white and parked next to my 75 Hurst. It won't take much to make a really nice car out of this one. Somebody could buy this and spend a little money and be into a nice classic car for not a lot of money. It won't last long. GLWS.

EDIT: The towing sign in the background of photo #1 is in Joliet, IL

But you guys make some good points. Definitely approach with caution, but I always would anyway ...
Getting a feel for the seller or the sellers representative is an important first step. The first phone call conversation is everything ...
That cash in person sounds more like he is just trying to protect himself... I've always bought my cars cash. Including the 69 for $5500. Sometimes flashing the cash is key to a better deal. But never go loaded for an initial inspection, as it is really the second feeling out session. If it's a screaming good deal and everything feels right, put a small deposit down.
I hear you with regards to the area code thing... But some people don't work with computers or the like. Especially older folks. I had a friend ask me to advertise his Chevelle for him on Craigslist.... I knew a lot of muscle car guys loaded with knowledge that were not keen on modern technology. Sites like this amazed me at first, because so many of you old school guys participate.

And again if it was a Chevelle equivalent it would of been long gone..., even with similar HP.
Oldsmobile are usually the good deal in these buying circles. Because they are every bit as much or more car than all the rest but many just don't focus on them.
In the end buying a used car is somewhat of an art form. If you've never been through it. You definitely want to talk to someone who has. And let them walk you through it. Especially the ups and downs and potential issues that could arise.

I have to say being old like I am I was a 72 or older guy for so long. The body lines on this car are so cool. Even has the hood. Is that a one year only hood or is that a 73-77 hood? I dig the bucket seat column shift interior. I had a friend who's Mom had a bucket seat column shift 71 442.
Oldsmobile's are an aquired taste for sure. Everyone can go buy a common car. Chevelle stang etc. We stand in a different square.
This car to me screams buy it. Pull the drivetrain. Mothball it. Build your 455 and whatever transmission. Killer sleeper.
