if its real that's a good price, I love the spoilers on the fastbacks, but I also think its cool to see them without the spoiler when they have an OAI hood - just to be different. - guess I'm not much help

Personally I like the look. If you're building the car for judging, the spoiler wasn't an option in 1972. It was discontinued in around March of 1971. I bought an aftermarket spoiler that I intend to put on my car just because I think it looks cool. I know you have to drive about 175 mph for it to be functional so I'm not even thinking that. It's an owner thing. If you like it buy it and put it on.

The repros are going for around 290.00 + so if you can get it for 200.00 you're ahead of the game even if you sell it later.

There is a specific mounting template for the spoiler (It's called the W35 option BTW). Once you pierce the trunk deck, it will never be the same, so you have to know it's going to be there for the rest of it's life. If you need a copy of the template, go to Wild About Cars; you can get a ton of free info there about your ride. Free to join, free to share.
For your convenience I'm providing a link to the 71 Assembly manual showing the spoiler mount template/fastening. (its exactly the same for 70 and 72 BTW, except on the 72 AM the diagram says "CANCELLED' . The info is on the 2nd last and last pages

Here ya go: http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/membe...ECTION_1-4.pdf

You're welcome. I'd actually encourage you to join the WAC site. This is only one of the bits of info that's free to use. Love to see how your car turns out. OAI Hood, possibly W35 spoiler. I think you'll have to beat the chicks off with a stick. They'll all want a ride. Mind you, if you're not attached that's a good thing....

Currently renting out shop space to work on it and i want to spend as much money on rent as possible! as far as the beating off of chicks, i cant see very many situations where this is a bad thing!

I had a repro that came with my car. I probably put it on and off a dozen times before I decided to bolt it on.
Btw, if yours is a repro, the AIM template shows the bolt hole locations. The repro bolt locations wont necessarily line up. So dont drill before you check!!!!!!!

Go for the wing! Every so often they come up for sale really inexpensive. In Dec/Jan one of our members just sold his (new in box) repop for 100.00 Wish I'd remembered to give you a heads up.

I have for the past 3 years. Will be there this year too, just don't know if I'll have my car road ready by then. Got some major stuff to do with it, and like you I have to watch the $$ situation. If I can't afford to do the work, the car will be at the show. You coming?

Yeah, I get that. It's only a 1 day show and for you it's probably a 3 day event. Where in BC are you? There are folks from BC and as far north as Ft. McMurray that come to the show. For me its only about 2 hour drive each way. If my car is not roadworthy at the time, I'll take my DD and just go down with my camera. I haven't done any real mtce to the car for so long. Even if I miss one show it will still be a step in the right direction to make it 100% safe again.

Have you guys ever checked out Early Birds from Barrie Ontario for your Olds parts? I'm thinking of buying the W-30 appearance package which costs $2250. Comes with the ram air hood, the hold downs, the rear wing, the W-30 emblems, stripe stencil kit and the red inner fenders.

But then again, I only really wanted the hood and the rear wing. I emailed them a few days ago and asked where the hoods were made and they answered that the hoods come from the Parts Place.

Their rear spoiler is currently $292.50

You're very welcome. I've been checking this site and I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere, so I wasn't sure if anyone from here bought their stuff from Early Birds? I emailed Fusick and didn't get a reply, plus on Ebay, they don't ship anything to Canada. So, it left me searching for something else.

I did buy some parts from BAP, though.

Here's a link to the site.....

Really? I've bought from Fusick ebay and Fusick direct. They shipped parts to Canada no problem. I've bought from BAP 2X and got screwed both times, not a popular vendor on this site. Do a search for BAP on this site and you'll find TONS of negative reviews.

I replied to this thing about Early Birds on another thread. They are way overpriced. Why pay 2250 for something Parts Place offers the hood, spoiler, striping kit (more than the same package) for 1489? That's about 2/3 or LESS than the cost charged by Early birds and you get way more for the $$. And Early Birds has a very limited supply of Cutlass parts. Oh, I've priced them out comparatively and the only thing they offer that's really cool is the A body skeleton shell. But for 11,000.00? C'mon. You can get a decent donor and patch panels for less than 4,000.

I do have the Early Birds website on my list of 'favorites' but haven't used them because of their pricing. Would love to buy Canadian, but their products aren't 'Made In Canada'. Most of them are supplied from the same aftermarket suppliers used by Tamraz, Parts Place, Fusick, Year One, OPGI. I can buy the same parts in the USA and have them shipped to Canada, pay brokerage etc and still be way cheaper than buying in the domestic market. There's something terribly wrong with our 'system'.

Olds71442, with due respects to a fellow Canadian, I wouldn't hang my hat on Early Birds. I don't know how the local economy is down in NS, but out here even with oil, gas, agriculture, mining etc I have to watch where money for my project car goes. The guy with the best price for the same parts usually wins.

I think so. I see all the same parts as Early Birds and other things that EB doesn't offer. I was already looking at that site and since the Canadian dollar is a bit higher than the US dollar, it would be way cheaper to buy it at Parts Place instead.

Thanks for the advice. Actually, I was already thinking of buying from Parts Place instead because of their selection and how much cheaper they were than Early Birds.

But yeah........I've tried to buy things from Fusick and every ad on EBay says "Shipping To: United States" and that's it. I tried emailing them and didn't get a reply. Finally I gave up and tried somewhere else.

I didn't know BAP had a bad rep here. I don't come here as much as I should, especially since I'm in the early stages of restoring my car. I already ordered a few things and one of the parcels should be here any day now. And....even though it is coming from BAP, it's actually parts that were originally listed in the Fusick catalog. So, BAP is buying them from Fusick and shipping them to Canada.

Thanks Allan.....I did a thorough search of the Parts Place site and found the same appearance package at the price you were talking about. I'd be crazy to pay an extra $800 for the exact same thing at another company. I didn't do this before because I hadn't heard of The Parts Place until yesterday when I got an email from Early Birds telling me where they bought their fibreglass hoods.

Can anyone find me a link to a thread on this site that has all the places I can find parts for Oldsmobiles? I already know about Fusick, BAP, Year One, Tamraz, The Parts Place and Early Birds.

You can post in the Parts Wanted section in this forum. You will, more than likely, find someone that has what you are looking for at a reasonable price. The parts may be used but are usually in good shape. In many cases, they are originals rather than aftermarket.

It helps the sellers lighten their inventories of extra parts from their restorations. Good, usable GM parts get recycled. You usually get a pretty good deal too. All things considered, I'd start there. If you can't find it here, then go to the aftermarket sights. IMO anyway.

If you can make it that would be great. When we get closer to July send me a PM and I'll let you know whether my car will be there. It will depend on how much stuff I tackle in the spring to rebuild on it. Been to Kamloops many times; you guys got some bone dry landscapes out there. Got attacked by several 'tumbleweeds' on the trans Canada one time! Very nice city though; in spite of the gas prices.

You really don't want to hear this. But I'll tell you since you asked.

Last year I went through Kelowna on the way to Van. Gas prices were 1.20 at Kel and Abbotsford. Everywhere else they were 1.32 or more. When I got back to AB, I filled up at Edson and paid 94.9 When I got back to Edm the price was 89.9

Just before Christmas we were at 94.9 and some pumps were as low as 90.9 Right now we're at 110/L but you just know that prices will go up for summer. Bought one of those discount cards from P.Canada with the points I've accumulated so that knocks 7¢/L off when I fill up. Makes it a little easier pill to swallow. When we move to BC, I know I'm just going to hate buying gas.....but what do you do? Not going to buy and electric car to avoid buying gas. There's no cost offset that makes sense about that.

Like I said, you don't really want to know......and FWIW, by summer with driving demand going higher and artificial inflation, we could be right up in the same price range as you are now.

Only PEI has the right idea - everywhere you go there gas is the same price at every single pump. No disparity there - it's equal opportunity gouging!

Yeah.....Nova Scotia and New Brunswick also have gas price regulation. All the local stations have the same prices for gas. I live about 3 hours from Halifax and the gas price gets slightly cheaper as you get closer. It's about 4 cents cheaper in Halifax.

We're at $1.39.6 per liter right now.

By the way, those parts I ordered from BAP arrived in the post office today, but I don't have them yet because the post office was closed by the time I got home. I'll get them tomorrow. I'll get to find out if BAP is as bad as you guys say they are.

Keep in mind that we're not criticizing their parts. They get their parts from the same sources as Year One, Fusick, Tamraz, OPGI etc for the most part. What we were not pleased with was their customer service. I found from talking with others on this site that many of them had experienced the same issues I have; or worse.

I ordered a fan shroud and a stone shield from them (2 separate orders) Got both of them after about 1 month waiting and phoning to find out where the parts were. They quoted shipping on both parts at around 35.00 because they were oversized. That's ok - I get it. Went to pick them up at the P.O. Had to pay p.o. extra fees around 8 bucks. BOTH orders were shipped in Purex bathroom tissue boxes and were beat to hell. Oh yeah, postage? They quoted 35.00 priority? The USPS label showed 3rd class parcel and was charged out at 14.00 and change - both times!!!

So I called them and politely explained that I was ok with the parts, could work with the delay in shipping (cross border) but I felt I should get at least store credit for the almost 30.00 they overcharged. I was told in no uncertain terms, "We've bent over backwards to help you. What you're asking for is the same as extortion and we don't want anything more to do with you". Then they hung up on me. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone because of that attitude and I WILL steer people away from them even if they have changed. I have a long memory and when someone disses me like that? They can eat $hit and die. (end rant)

Anyway I hope you're happy with the quality of the parts you bought. Hope you didn't order the 442 grills - they don't fit into the stone shield whether it's OEM or aftermarket. Requires extensive modification to the stone shield. But that's the same for PP, Year One, OPGI and Fusick too. I should just fly down there and chat with you. Save our fingers some keyboard pounding. Put on some lobsters and corn. I'll stop at the beer store on the way over

I got the parts today and yes it is the grills. The grills, stoneshield and head lamp housings. I can see where the problem is why they aren't fitting well and I can fix them up in no time at all. I've been doing bodywork for almost 20 years now, and this is just a minor fix for me.

I would also enjoy it if you flew down here to chat. I love talking about Oldsmobiles or just about any muscle car. I'm the only one in my area that owns an Olds from that era. I know another guy who used to own a '70, same color as mine, but he sold it a few years ago for $11,000, with the factory ram air hood. But the car wasn't in as good a shape as mine. The guy's son was old enough to drive and he was beating the **** out of the car, so the guy sold it so he wouldn't get a call in the middle of the night to find out his son was killed in the car.

I got the grills to fit with minimal work. There's a little lip at the top of the grill that aims toward the stoneshield. The aftermarkets have a tighter gap than the original. I used my die grinder and shaved the piece off a little bit and it fit perfect. I wondered why my old grills went into the stoneshield so easily? The lip on the old grill and the old stoneshield pieces were both broken, so it slid into place very easily.
