Knee Action Shocks

I have read elsewhere that hydraulic jack fluid will work in knee action shocks. Has anyone had any experience with this? Shocks are on a 49 Olds. Dick T

Yes it will work, also automatic transmission fluid if you are in a jam but my buddys 40 olds leaked fluid so fast passed the seals that it became impractical after a while.....Tedd

I heard this remedy several years ago. I have not tried it so all I am doing is passing it on. Heat STP to where you can pour it and use that in the shocks. It seems to make a little sense. Just passing it on.

I've never tried the STP thing but it seams that it would be way to thick. Regular shock oil isn't much if any thicker than 20 wt motor oil and contains an anti foaming agent. I bet one would be in for a harsh ride with that thick of oil, may not leak through worn seals though....Just my thoughts...Tedd

That makes a lot of sense Tedd. The only way I would try it is if I had nothing to lose. I think you are correct about it possibly not leaking through the old worn seals.
