Fender Question

I have a question about 71 cutlass convertible and 72 cutlass convertibles. I believe the fenders should be the interchangable. Can someone with more knowledge back me up on this before I spend money on an old set of fenders I can't use? Thanks.

yes as far as I know the are the same, and the repos are for 17 and 72. The repos aren't bad but if you can find a good used set I buy the used set

If you have a good source on some old OEM fenders, I'd consider going with them even if they need a patch panel at the bottom. The fenders don't even have to be from verts. The front fender on ALL 71 and 72 f85, Cutlass, Cutlass S, Cutlass Supremes and Vista Cruisers are exactly the same. The only thing you might have to do is weld up the piercings you don't need and you're in business. With an OEM part, at least you'll know it fits. With todays restoration and rust proofing techniques, a used and in good shape OEM can be restored to almost better than new and is the way to go IMO.

The reason I haven't included 70? The fender looks the same, but doesn't have the same "crumple" ridges at the top. For 71, GM re engineered the fender to be less deadly in the event of a collision. And, for those who are doing a concours restoration, those 70 fenders are worth their weight in gold.
