Question AOI Hood repair

I have a 72 cutlass with a damaged AOI hood. The hood has been damaged on the front edge as the metal part has some rust issues. My question is will a standard hood work to repair it? I am considering buying a used piece and cutting the front and welding it on the AOI hood. Will this work?

Thanks

If your Cutlass is an original "OAI" then you might risk damaging it beyond repair by cutting on it and welding. They are fiberglass on the top side with a steel frame below. There are places that will restore them but this sounds expensive. If you have pictures of the damage to post, I could steer you in the right direction if you want.
