'70 Cutlass body question
Hi All,
Working the engine compartment on the '70 vert, and wondered if anyone could tell me the 'correct' name for the sheetmetal piece just behind the headlight bucket (see pic), and if there is an aftermarket replacement for it? This is LH side, just forward of the batt tray. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

What you seek is a radiator support repair panel. High tendency to rot out after helping support gassy, leaky batteries for 40 years. They used to be commonly available but then supply dried up & they haven't been made in years afaik. Not sure if someone has come through making any recently.
If no one has made new ones in the last 10 years, you can carefully cut it out & have a metal fabricator make one, find a used one in good shape, see if another "A" body car has similar that might be available, lastly find a whole used rad sppt from someone on this site.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm surprised they quit making these given how bad the battery areas typically are.. Now that I know what to call them, I'll do some internet digging and see if I can get lucky. Mine's actually not as bad as some I've seen, may try to have my fab shop make a repair panel for it if I can't find one. Thanks again for the help.

HAHAHAHAHA
The Cutlass core support is different for each year from 1964-1972. Nothing else but the correct year Cutlass core support fits.

They same? What, 72 Skylark and 70 Cutlass?

The gist of my reply was that I found the repair panels there for a 72 Skylark convertible. I thought they might have them for a 70 Cutlass convertible also. Should have been clearer as Joe pointed out so eloquently.

The core support repair panel for the area under the battery USED to be available for the Olds A-body line. I bought one years ago, but have not seen them advertised for over a decade. If you can find one for a Buford, it SHOULD also fit an Olds, and I'd be very interested to know the vendor.

Well, I'm striking out on a repair panel, although I did find a complete core support at The Parts Place (thanks Blackpage) for $379. Don't think mine is bad enough to justify the cost, especially since the new one looks like thin Chinese steel.
Also found a few parts cars, surprise surprise, all rusted out on the LH side worse than mine. On to a custom repair... Thanks for the help, guys.
