67 Cutlass fender repair
Hi folks. I've got the assembly manual and the factory manuals, and found a few pix on Google, but need some help knowing what a good fender should look like on the inside, and where the rear bolt on the inner fender attaches. Things were repaired before I got this car. I've attached some pictures of the car and one of the 2 fender patches I have. I appreciate any pictures, tips, and pointers.

i got some time i can break down the repair method how i did it. The easiest was for me was to take the fender off. measure your patch and trim the fat from the fender based on the size of the patch . In other words dont cut it to the size you need to install the pacth just cut about 2 inches under so that you can get a much better fit on mock up to figure out where and how much to cut to properly fit the patch . Now set your piece over the fender and mark it at the top of that flange. use that flange to get a flush fit it's easier to do body work over it vs. if you over lap it. now that you marked where your flange will be measure the height of the flange just that flange and mark under the marked line the diffrence. Ex. your patch sits 19.5 inches total from bottom to the top of the flange . your flange is .5 inches you will need to cut the fender .5 inches under the actual height of the line marked so that when the patch is installed and that flange is on the back side things will sit flush and square. the easiest way to do with is buy some .5 inch masking tape and tape under your total height line and cut it under the tape line with a cut off tool. You can always leave a little extra like .75 and just trim as you fit . I like to do the .05 or what ever the flange size is usually .5 . Now you can slide your patch panel in behind the fender sheet metal screw it and start to square it up. by that i mean make sure your fender to door gap edge looks even and straight and your wheel archs look even too. now before you weld anything sheet metal screw it all up and test fit i cant stress that enough lol. you will need to tweak the patches here and there. you have to look at your door gap. bottom height, wheel arc, and body lines when you tweak and fit. make sure the bottom of the fender is straight and not bulging out that usually means the panel is a little longer and you will need to bring it up a bit. you will make your inner structure last and weld it after everything is done being mocked up and fitted to you likeness. This is just to give you some general direction but you can ask take pics as you go and i can help or someone else here im sure will help out too.

Thanks CopperCutlass. Let's talk some more when you've got some time.
Thanks for the reply CopperCutlass. I've sent you a private message with my phone # hoping we can talk a bit and I could get some more advice. I don't live too far from Elgin. I did find a few pics of Cutlass fenders that might be helpful.

I have the fenders off, understand things more now
Coppercutlass - Thanks for the talk and the tips. I appreciate the info and help. I know I haven't posted anything on this thread for a couple months so I'm not looking for any response to this late post but I did want to get back with an update.
I have the fenders off now, and I see on the back where there's a "tab" and the hole it bolts to. Now that I have these off I have found a big hole on the passenger side behind the rocker panel .
I'll do some searches here to see what other folks have talked about for this, and some searches for rocker panel repair on Chevelles might tell me some more.
I started with the idea of cleaning and painting the engine compartment. As these things go and one find more problems you have to figure out what you should work on "while things are already apart" and what can wait. This isn't the daily driver so I don't have the "need to drive it to work Monday" requirement", but I sure do miss driving her!
