1966 442 tri-power, "E" block, casting number 390925, rebuilt and bored 40 thousandth over. At idle engine runs fine. When holding a steady speed the car feels as if it is in too high a numerical gear and the car bucks slightly or feels like a miss, almost as if it should be downshifted, but when you downshift it still has the problem. Did not notice the problem during acceleration. Engine has less than 100 miles on it. 3:55 rears gears. Any ideas?

Have you checked your transmission fluid? Perhaps your transmission fluid is low and it is cavitating and the pressure is dropping...

I had a broken wire in my distributor that acted that way. The wire was broken inside the insulation, so everything looked good and ran fine, except at higher revs where it would act up similar to how you describe...

A bad spark plug wire cross firing or grounding out will cause that problem.

Car has this miss problem at all speeds. The reason I am asking about this problem is I am thinking of buying this car and I don't want a major repair on my hands right away. Could there be any expensive answers to this problem? I appreciate everyone who has helped.

If you haven't bought the car then tell the current owner that you will buy it if they fix the problem first.

when you have the engine running low rpm, but hi load- the tendency to misfire is usually related bad plugs/wires/coil/cap/rotor.

check your mechanical advance as well, (are the weights free? does the actuaor hold vacuum?)
