425 sudden lifter noise
Had the 67 Delta 88 out yesterday. I drove maybe 15/20 miles. I heard some engine noise as I crossed a bridge as I was returning home but it was quick and wasn't sure of what I was hearing. As I pulled in the driveway a minute later the sound was a bit more evident and identifiable..lifters tapping. I checked the oil and it was fine but seemed thin. Would an oil pump fail that abruptly?
I suppose I will change the oil/filter and start from there.

I'd go purchase a mechanical and temporarily install it to find out. I would use a Napa gold or a wix filter. Since Oldsmobile engines have non adjustable valve trains it may be worn lifters or rocker pivots. Worst case an oil pump or cam.

If mine I would change the oil and first and see if it goes away. I had a 63 Olds that would stick a lifter every 3000 miles. That was my reminder to change the oil. Noise would go away till the next 3000 miles.... Tedd

i can understand a lifter or perhaps 2 misbehaving but not all of them at once without a reasonable explanation such as a blockage or as you say, pump or cam. thanks.

thanks Tedd..thats' my first step. I have to change the oil anyway as i added a cap of seafoam last week. Just wondering if that has something to do with it.
