Looks like a 66 or 67 Cutlass switch pitch assy for an ST300 or T400 SP. That controls your passing gear and torque convertor. One of the guys may have one, and some members have successfully repaired theirs.

So that's not the original engine (not that it matters for this problem)
Yeah, see, with that 455, you don't need to slam the throttle as hard as before.
Seriously, what part broke? If it's a steel bracket, that's easily welded. If it's the aluminum housing, it might be difficult to weld correctly.
dont hink its fixable, it snapped right at the base...

I am hoping to have time to take it apart tonight or tomorrow, but it appears to ne the base of the round thingy (whatever that is) switch pitch assembly, is what OLDCUTLASS said, sound right?

No. The "switch pitch assembly" is a solenoid valve and associated plumbing inside the trans. This is the electrical switch that activates both the switch pitch solenoid and the separate kickdown solenoid (which are why the switch has three wires instead of two).

thanks everyone, hopefully I can find one rather quickly...

There should be lots of these around as just about all 65-67 b bodies used this part. Used though is your only choice as there are not reproductions. Thing is to see why it snapped. I broke one once trying to snap back the secondaries that would stick open on the Holley spreadbore. Usually a forceful quick tromp on the gas pedal would do it. You need to check that when the gas pedal is all the way down there is not any stress on the throttle rod.

Only Olds and Buick used the switch pitch trans, and some cars used a switch on the intake that attached to the carb arm instead of on the firewall. Unfortunately, since A-body cars are more popular, you see those switches for sale. I can't say that I've ever seen one for a B/C-body advertised.

If you post an ad for a "switch pitch trans", you're going to get this:
You want a throttle kickdown switch for a switch pitch trans.
