Performer design vs. air gap design

Anyone know why the performer intake has a larger plenum and smaller runners but the air gap has a smaller plenum but larger runners. Also can you make a performer flow good up to say 6000 rpm with just cutting the divider down? Thank you

I've asked that very question to the Edelbrock engineers. no one could give me an answer.
I agree, the plenum needs to be bigger on the RPM. Otherwise you need to use larger carbs for maximum performance.
And in order to tell you if the Performer will go to 6000 I'd need to know the combination first.

I guess I'm more so asking what to go with. I have both intakes but would be willing to return brand new air gap and put money somewhere else into motor. Do not have a carb yet so money could go towards that but either way won't break the bank. So here is what I got.

Stock balanced rotating assembly
TRW 2323 60 over
C heads big valve ported flow 280@.600 intake 190@.600 ex.
1 7/8 headers into 3 inch exhaust
7qrt oil pan/HIV pump restricted
1.6 roller tip rockers
Custom flat tap cam 240/240 dur. .536/.536 lift 110 lsa
3.73 gears
3000 stall
3700# 71 442

I know 6000 rpm would be a lot to ask but would eventually someday would like to lighten up rotating assembly so not sure if air gap for now would help, hurt, or make no difference with this setup.

I figured out the compression and engine size by the piston number. And be very careful when handling that HIV oil pump. You might want to wear gloves.
If you're going to buy the right carb then I'd use the RPM. Use an 850 or larger and cut the center divider down to about an inch off the floor.

The rpm capabilities are limited to the breathing ability of the combination, not just the rotating assembly.

Plenum and runner volumes have to to with flow velocity, and venturi signal. David Vizard does a good job going into detail about venturi boosting vs plenum volume and runner velocity.
