noise in my 455

after dyno testing and going for a nice cruise my 76 455 developed a slight ticking sound that has progressively gotten worse ill try to load a video of the sound .i pulled the drivers side valve cover thinking it could be a valve spring or rocker bridge but everything looks to be ok .it sounds like its coming from under the intake manifold .we put a new cam in it about 500 miles ago and its been running pretty good.at this point i dont have a clue what it could be .any thoughts?thanks

It's not the best video but It does sound more like a rattle .im at a loss. Maybe have to pull the intake.we put those iron plugs in to block the heat risers maybe has something to do with that.

It sounds like one of those plugs is loose in the manifold crossover.

I'm leaning that way as well . How important is it to plug those crossovers? If I take it apart I'm thinking just take them out.i will say the intake manifold does run much cooler with them blocked .

took off the manifold after work today and i believe the noise was those cast iron plugs rattling .drivers side gasket was burnt through and by tapping on the plug i could replicate the noise .of course after the fact ive read one story after another of this happening (btw these plugs are supplied with the edelbrock intake manifold).this is the second time ive had this apart im get tired of these damn plugs .

Its a common problem as they are a hand fit. You can use stainless plates and fiber type gasket.

after you replace the manifold issue and if possibly it might be there check the exhaust. I had a header tube burn on the dyno really strange but true. some exhaust leaks also sound like that from my experience.

This happened to a friend of mine. The sound was sickening. We were all relieved when he found it.
