STOLEN: 1969 442 in Georgia

Folks,
My 1969 Olds 442 was stolen from hot rods & customs in Monroe, GA sometime in the first week of April. I don't have all the details since the shop hasn't called me back....

The car: Bronze color and was undergoing bodywork. The drivetrain was original matching #'s and fully restored. 400 v8, turbo 400 tranny w/stall, 3.73 auburn posi. new 15" rally wheels & brand new tires. 4 wheel disc's with slotted rotors. Interior was mostly restored in black from year one. Edelbrock 750 carb & torker alum intake. hooker headers and 3" duals. You'd hear it if it was driving down the road!

Beware of anyone selling any used parts from this 1969...most of us that these parts demand a premium and also are pretty hard to find.

If you have any info or suspect any stolen parts are trying to be sold, please contact Walton County Sheriff at 770-267-6557, Jonathan Hicks - Detupty Sheriff, case #2008-1743.

I've owned the car for about 2 years and put countless time, energy and funds into this project....only to have it ripped off. If anyone can help us with info, please do.

Thanks! -Brian

will do...

Brian I will keep my eyes open, I have a 69 cutlass convertible, and I am in the process of looking for parts so I will keep my antennae up, that truly truly sucks.. on the other side of the coin are you insured under the repair shops insurance? ( like if it had been stolen from your garage you might be covered under your homeowners)

and if we catch the guy, there might not be any need to bother the busy sheriff!, I got a few bags a cement if you got a shovel, i am sure we can put them to good use....

BUMMER! Did the owner of the shop have much to say about the theft? Seems to me that his insurance should pay up. I hope the cops find the car soon.

This is why I always drive the parts cars
It's harder to steal the ''nice one'' when it's still in a million pieces.

I'm covered under Grundy...the repair shop will not call me back. Hence, why I got the police involved.
Definitely like your idea about cement and shovel. I do have a boat.
thx.

He is not calling me back. I'm tired of calling. I have Grundy the shop owner name/address/phone and explained the situation. The police have their # too, and the officer said he'd call them -or try to.

---- Thanks again everyone. It really sucks that this happened. That olds was unique. I found it in a barn (here in GA) and it had been sitting since 1983 (per the tags). It was in decent shape for sitting that long, then after countless hours of work and $$$$...she was up and running very, very strong. Completely rebuilt 400 with cam, 5 angle, hi-comp, etc. Makes me ill...!

Did the shop owner call the police and tell them that a car in their care and custody was stolen, or did the shop owner call YOU?

Sounds like an inside job (on the part of the repair shop) with the admittedly limited information we have here.

I am really sorry to hear that and I agree with the other members that it sounds like an inside job. I assume no other cars were stolen from this shop? I am also looking for 69 parts and let you know if anything comes up. Good luck.

Hope you have a record of all the expenses that you put into your car. Hope they ammend your agreed value to include these things. I don't know if they will accept personal labor charges though.

Any news on the car? It's really hard to keep a classic a secret. I'm with the others on this one. Any business that's worth its salt is going to do everything reasonable and practical to maintain their image and professionalism. A business that won't return calls???? Doesn't want business. These are the guys down off Interstate 78 and Ho Hum hollow, right? Word of mouth gets around better and faster than paid advertising.

Any of their staff really new or just leave??

I really hope you get your wheels back. Especially when it's been a pet build for so long.

sorry, i've been out of touch in the community. Grundy paid me and i moved on from muscle cars. Too much time, energy, and money was spent with this car only to have some idiot steal it. Frustrating as one would imagine. Unfortunately, i'm sticking to the modern technology Jap cars now. All well, it was fun to hear the old beast run at least, when I had it....

To answer your question....the car was bronze and the top part was tan with most of the paint on the roof flaked off. Check out the exhaust on the car, I had 3" duals and NO trumpets.

Both cars from Georgia?? Something might smell

http://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/...is-engine.html

Might be a coincidence might not

"I am selling a complete, original, numbers matching 442 rolling chassis. It is currently underneath a very nice original 442 in excellent condition, a solid #2 car, using the Old Cars Price Guide Scale. Yes, I am disassembling an original 442 with documentation. I need the body complete for my custom chassis. I am selling the complete rolling chassis. It has its original 400, trans, 12 bolt rear-end. I have five SS1 wheels with red-line tires. This car was restored in the '90's and received tons of new parts. I think the documentation listed trans rebuild, engine rebuild, new springs, all kinds of new parts. I have the documentation from the restoration shop in Georgia that did the work. All work done was to restore the car to stock condition. Like I said, the rolling chassis is for sale complete. The car will be disassembled in 3-5 weeks, so now is the chance to see the car while all systems are operational. How often can you drive the engine, trans, or rear axle that is for sale? This complete chassis is for sale for $3500.00 USD. Car can be seen in Easley, SC, where my restoration is taking place. I can be contacted at 217-224-8513 anytime before 10 pm central time. Car has around 90,000 miles on it, and I have pics I can send. You cannot buy original parts in excellent condition for near this price. This is not a bogus ad. I needed a great condition restored 442 hardtop for my custom chassis. I already have my drivetrain custom built for the application. The restoration was extensive, but was not frame-off. The front clip came off. The frame will have undercoating on it. The car was undercoated when it was originally sold new. I have the original bill of sale. This includes all the original goodies: sway bars, boxed trailing arms, drum brakes all around, engine from restored air cleaner to restored oil pan (!), exhaust in nice condition, you name it."
