Also another tidbit of information on the car I wanted to share...the Original Titled date on it was 11-21-1969. So this may or may not be an October build. If it is a November build, that's still not bad, just not one of the first few hundred.
A Fisher Body build date of 10C is consistent with a VIN of 166xxx. And 10C is the third week of October. 166xxx is lower than mine, so you take over 2nd place -- once you prove it's really a W-30.
Don't worry about the titled date.

Well, I'll definitely need your help for the verification process. Thanks for being the great resource to me you have been so far. Maybe our cars will meet up someday.

Thanks Stefano. Like I said before, I really had no doubt based on the years that he owned it. But the transmission is from a 1969 Hurst. How many people have that combo? HAHA!

It has been some time since we stopped this discussion. Any other October cars that anyone has found since?

Early Linden 70 442?

My Linden, NJ built 70 442 seems to be an early build. The Fisher body number is E15 but the cowl tag does not have a date from what I can see. See picture. Where I expect the date code to be it says B85 C08.

However from the recently found build sheet the "Schedule No Date" Block 10 says "08 08-04". What does this mean? Car built August 4, 1969 or 4th week of August 1969? Found the build sheet on top of the fuel tank, it was under the black mat and stained a bunch but I have got 95% of the data from it so far. The build sheet lists body number E00015 which matches cowl tag.

What are the last 6 digits of your VIN?

Then VIN is 344870E100386.
What does the schedule no and date code of 08 08-04 mean for actual date?

I'm no expert on interpreting Linden build sheets.

VINs for the model year started with 100001, so yours was the 386th car built. This means it was likely built on the first day of production for the 1970 model year, though it would never surprise me to find that it took a few days to get the line moving up to speed at the beginning of the year.

That is cool that it could be a day 1 build, thanks.
Any idea what the Schedule NO Date of 08 08-04 means?

Like I said, no expert ...... but looking at a bunch of pictures of build sheets I have, the first two digits are sometimes higher than 30, and one is even in the 80s, so it can't be part of a date. I'm guessing that's the Schedule Number. What exactly that is, I can't say. Maybe instead of one continuous rolling schedule the plant created separate, finite schedules, each of which covered a day or week or other arbitrary time.

Again, looking at all my build sheets it's apparent that the last four digits (with dash) are indeed a Date. September 4 in your case, which is indeed very early in the production year. But is this the date the car was ordered by the dealer? Scheduled by the plant? The actual production date? Who knows.

Get a pic of that build sheet on here. Would be interesting to see. Congrats on the early, possibly Day 1 car.

Here it is, I have been able to get 95% of the info transcribed off of it, using a magnifier or just carefully cleaning it off.
Found on top of the fuel tank but under the tank mat which transferred the nasty brown material to it.

Car is a good condition 3 driver, not original motor. Paint is original color- Twilight Blue but has been re-painted at least once.
I bought it in February and have been enjoying driving it/working on it repeat.......
Interior had been redone before I got it, I figured the build sheet was not going to be found since that had been done. Got lucky when I dropped the fuel tank to fix the inaccurate fuel gauge!

Question

I always thought that ALL 1970 w30's were made in Lansing Michigan but in a Jay Leno's Garage they talked about his convertible 1970 w30 made in "Fremont, California "!!! Is that possible??
Thanks!

I don't think that it shows that information. But does it make a difference for olds made in Cali?

If it was made in Fremont, it was not originally a W-30. It's not uncommon for people who have a W-30 clone (tribute, badges-only, whatever) to refer to their car as a W-30 out of convenience, ignorance, whatever.

Let me guess: his convertible has a wing, too, right?

I thought that all special order paint cars came out of Lansing as well. Am I wrong on that?

Special paint cars could be produced anywhere. My special paint (Viking Blu) 70 442 was built at the Fremont CA plant

A month and day are shown on the broadcast card which corespond to the date on the trim tag, which is coded by the month and week.

Mine is a 69 W30; however, for the fun of the inquiry:

Order date: as yet unknown... still sifting through Dad's papers and hoping to find the order, window sticker, and protectoplate...
Cowl tag date: 12C
Broadcast card date: 12/20
Build sheet date: 12/26
Title date: 1/7
