I recently purchased some zinc and manganese phosphate plating chemicals from Palmetto Enterprises.

The first part I did was the hood latch on my '70 442.

I was very pleased with the ease of use, and the final results.

So.... I thought that I would share some before and after photos.

wow looks great, that would probably be a good thing to do on the hood hinges too, though not sure if it i correct for hinges

Thanks guys, the parts look alot better in person though.

I put a very heavy coat of Boeshield on these parts and the Boeshield makes the plating appear to be un-uniform in the photos, but it is not.

Very pleased with the product as well. It was very easy to do.

Now I am just trying to spread the good word around about this product

This is the exact reason I bought this chemical, to do my hood hinges.

I did this test on the smaller hood latch first. Their zinc phosphate chemical that I used on the hood latch was a exact match to the light gray phosphate on my original hood hinges.

H ow much clean up did you do on the first parts? Did you just put it in a bucket or what?

I glass bead blasted the parts first.

I measured out some of the plating chemical and some distilled water into a stainless steel pot. I then placed the pot on a table top electric burner and brought the solution to 180 to 200 deg. I submerged the parts into the solution and about 15 minutes later you get what was in the photo above.

I was shocked how easy it was to do.

Nice job on the phosphate plating. Did you buy the pint or quart size from Palmetto? Have you used much of the chemicals so far? You purchased both the zinc and manganese, have these parts been treated with the manganese? And finally, once you mix them up are you able to use the solution over or is it a one shot deal? This is exactly what I want to do for a number of parts and I really appreciate you putting these pics up for us. Looks great Lance.

I bought a quart of each. I have did alot of small parts so far, and only used a small amount of the chemical. After each use, I filter the chemical thru a coffee filter and back into a plastic jug.

That hood latch was done with some chemical that had been used four times, and it still did a great job plating.

Looks great. A company near me did one for me. I had to remove all the springs because the solution makes them very brittle.

I ended up trading mine for an NOS piece. A total black phosphate latch is not correct. These originally had gold cad plated rivets and latch mechanism.
