'70 fan clutch to water pump hardware???
In the 1970 Oldsmobile assembly line manual the fan/ fan clutch assembly is shown to attach to the water pump flange via four 5/16-18 - 5/16-24 double ended studs and four 5/16-18 nuts.
In the Oldsmobile illustrated parts manual the fan/ fan clutch assembly is attached to the water pump flange via four 5/16-24 X 1" hex headed bolts ('64-'72 all).
My '70 442 w/ AC and HD cooling built at the Fremont plant in March of 1970 had grade 5 "TR" headed 5/16-24 hex headed bolts holding the fan/ fan clutch to the water pump flange when I removed it.
At this point I don't know if I can trust what was on the car as I have already found out that the water pump, fan, and fan clutch were all incorrect.
What would be considered assembly line correct for my car (studs or bolts), or is this a matter of what ever was avalible at the time of "the build" was used.

I've always seen the studs as factory from all GM vehicles.
It was popular to change to 'flex fans' and 'spread-bore' Holleys in the early-mid 70's, as they were touted to increase horsepower! [WRONG!]
Some flex fans came with hardened bolts to replace the studs.
Most any auto parts store has the stud kit.

Sounds good, I'll see if I can't track down a clutch fan kit.
On another note, I took off the old clutch today and realized it was made by Ford. So, not sure if this was someone cobbling a fan together with what parts they had or if clutch fans are interchangeable.

I don't have any specific info, but I believe they're fairly interchangeable.
You can do comparisons of part numbers from RockAuto or another site to see whether there's a pattern, but I would suspect fan size and number of blades would be the main factors in interchangeability.
