I put your post in it's own thread, figured you deserved it and that way we aren't hijacking someone else's thread.
At any rate, are you talking about an older style points ignition? If so the voltage source goes to the plus side of the coil. That is usually something less than full battery voltage because of the in line resistor texasred mention in the other thread which drops the voltage down a little for circuit component protection and longevity. The other side of the coil (negagtive) goes to the points and in some cars, the tachometer. Sorry, I don't have a diagram.
