more power for my 403
i bought a 403 small block for my '84 98 regency, i want more power but i dont have a lot of money to invest in it. my uncle said for me to get a better cam and some 7a heads of a '72 350, will that be fine on my stock 403 without major work or $. The car is pretty much a daily driver, i might have fun with it from time to time. Help me out
thanks
thanks
You may run into a head bolt issue with the 350 heads. I believe you will have to have them machined to match the hole sizes on the 403 block.
A bone stock 403 would roast the tires all day anyway. Unless you're going to be racing the thing, I wouldn't even waste a good pair of 350 heads on it. but that's just me. Keep the 403 heads and Save your money up for a better rear end instead. That 2.41 1 legger you have will suck the life out of any motor you put in.
I want to go fast and on little to no budget Just doesn't go together unfortunately.

You need to remove the oil pan, crank, and rotating assembly. Then you can weld up the open main webs. Or you can just do what I did and stick JB weld in there for some added strength.
Just kidding. Welcome to the site. A cam and some headers would really make that thing lively.

honestly i have about 1,500 bucks to get more power out of the 403, i got the new motor through my uncles friend pretty cheap, through research ive read that the heads on that motor arent too good and the cam wasnt good, so if i can get some of those things done would that help, including the intake? i got a 200-4r tranny on it so what rear end do yall recommend, this will be a street driver but i want power, i am saving more money for future work, just wanted feedback thanks

#1...A set of 3.08/3.23 gears will make that thing a blast to drive, and still have decent economy.
A set of early heads with smaller chambers, and even a generic 214 cam and dual exhaust will shake the bugs out of most all street cars you run into. Recurve dist, block heat risers, ENJOY.
