There is no vacuum modulator on the Slim Jim. In fact, there is no vacuum input into it of any kind.

Slim Jim shifting is governed by a TV rod which runs from the carburetor linkage all the way down to the transmission on the driver's side. The Slim Jim is exquisitely sensitive to adjustments in this linkage. If you don't have a service manual, pick one up ASAP & study the proper way to set up the carb & trans.

In the meantime, if you just want to mess around, try either shortening or lengthening the TV rod where it connects to the carb linkage. You should see it running up between the engine & the firewall. The rod attaches to the linkage with a yoke- take off the cotter pin & washer, then remove the big attaching pin. Be careful not to lose this pin or drop it under the intake manifold.

The yoke is adjustible & held in place with a jam nut. Back off the nut & rotate the yoke to shorten or lengthen the rod. Be sure to count how many times you turn it so you can put everything back the way you found it! Move the yoke 1/4 inch or so in or out & then try driving the car to see if anything's different. I think a longer TV length may result in a delayed 1-2 upshift, but I can't quite remember.

The Slim Jim is also very sensitive to fluid level. Check it with the car level, running, & hot.

There have been some extensive posts on the Slim Jim here. If you use the search feature you should be able to find them.

Good luck-

Chuck
