Here is photo of console lock from my '67. It uses the same attachment as the glove box on the '66. There is a release tumbler you can press with a small awl or paperclip. Doing so allows the push-button/tumber to come out of the latch. You may need to use the key to align the tumblers before it will come out all the way.
