This car can be seen in the Hemmings Muscle Machines 12/2006 edition, they did a nice article on it. More importantly, this 79 Hurst was restored by fellow member 69442C who owned it between 1981 and 1989 Read more ยป

1979 Hurst Olds, Jan 2006. Brian did one heck of a job with this engine resto. Jess Miller Machine shop rebuilt the motor, it's still the original motor but it now has a very mild cam, it's got 9.5 to 1 forged pistons up from the 8.0 to 1 cast, and pushes about 260 H/P up from the original 170 or so. One really doesn't want to go much higher than that in these cars, with their weak frames and especially with Hurst Hatches or GM issued Fisher T Tops.

1979 Hurst Hatch Ad. In my view they should have left the passengers side hatch on the car to display it. I do this all the time at shows so people can see what they look like off and on the car. Also, note the wheels on this Oldsmobile, these were the silver painted version which could be purchased with any Cutlass Supreme/Calais between 1978 to 1981. These Hatches were available in aluminum, the gold anodized versions were not available

All 3 "civilian" owners Mark (1989-1996), Gene (1996-present owner), Brian (1981-1989). Hurst Performance owned this car from 1979 to 1981 (primarily driven by Jack Duffy) and was used as their promo vehicle those 2 years. Note I moved over to show the H/O license plate, that one is original to the car.

Hurst Photos Completed Car 1/2006. All trim moldings and wheel opening moldings were NOS when installed. The L shaped sail panel window moldings were re-plated. The only repro items you see here are the sail panel and trunk lid H/O emblems. Fusick did such a good job reproducing these I went with their emblems instead of NOS.

Hurst Photos Completed Car 1/2006. Bumpers are re-plated. Grilles, header panel emblem, hood ornament, headlight bezels and even the headlights & headlight buckets are NOS. No halogens here. The wheels & centers are also NOS. Those NASCAR 14 inch tires may no longer be available. It's getting harder and harder to even get 14's these days

Gold Anodized Hurst Hatches. Only 4 sets of these gold anodized sets were made, 2 were to go to white & gold cars, and 2 went to the black & gold version. What you see here is the NOS set installed on the restored car. This set was to have gone to Linda Vaughn for her 79 H/O back then, but she did not take delivery so they were never installed, until now. The original set for this car is in storage. The whereabouts of the 2 black & gold cars is unknown, they may no longer exist. My H/O may just be the only car left with these gold anodized hatches.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of either of the 2 black and gold 1979 H/O's with those gold anodized Hurst Hatches on the cars, please contact me or someone in the H/OCA club, there are ALOT of people who would like to know if they still exist as they are part of a very important part of Hurst Olds and Oldsmobile history!

HO and a Pontiac Trans Am at Atco about 1982 (?). Last time it raced. Who made that smoke Brian? Or was it just cold that day?

HO at Atco Raceway in south Jersey back in the day. As you can see it's winning out of the gate, it won that race, and Brian tells me the Trans Am owner was p****d. Photo circa 1982.

Correct Carb for 1979 Hurst Motor, ready to go. I believe they may have also put these carbs on the Olds equipped 403 1979 Trans Am Firebirds, not sure. Could be why Brian beat that 79 Trans Am back in 1982, it probably had the inferior 400 Pontiac motor in it.

Hurst Photos Completed Car 1/2006. Those chrome tail pipe extensions have since been removed. I liked them but NOBODY else did, including my wife. By popular demand (!) they were taken off. Perhaps you may see them soon on my blue Calais.....?

1979 Hurst Olds Promo Photo. This was actually my car back when Hurst owned it between 1979-1981. The giveaway is you can see the cutout portion of the gold anodized hatches on the roof. Does anyone agree with me when I say I think my car seems to be smiling here? Looks quite happy indeed. Ah, youth.

Not to worry, that Fram oil filter is long gone

Note the drain plug Brian installed in the block just behind the fuel pump, to better remove the antifreeze when needed.

HO back when Brian owned it, he advises This picture was taken in 1987 after they moved to MD from PA. It's a nice photo of how the car originally looked.

2007 Hurst Olds Nationals - included in this display are each of the 6 Johnny Lightning "Hurst Muscle" cars. In each car's blister pack is also card #12 which is the actual car in the big picture with Linda Vaughn on the trunk, which also is this very Hurst Olds.
