My stock starter went out and having headers it was so tight getting a new one back in.. so I bought a powermaster mini starter. Now when I put it into drive and rev the engine it makes a screeching sound. It sounds like maybe the starter is rubbing against the flex plate. I checked the bolts and the flexplate is tight
The starter isnt in a bind against anything pushing it at a weird angle. I've tried it in three or four different positions.. I've tried it with shims and without.. same issue every time. Anyone have any ideas?
No, I've didnt have that in the box. I installed the one that goes between the mounting base and the motor. This circular one is what I need? Thanks for the reply.

Yep, you need a spacer to gain the right distance. I had the same problem with the powermaster. The starter teeth need to move back, to get clearance away from the flywheel ring. It's different from a normal starter shim that moves them down.

yup, that's exactly what I need. Thanks so much guys, appreciate your help. I'll post back if it works for anyone having the issue in the future.
Btw, in an emergency pinch, if you have some thick solder about the same thickness as their spacer or a tad more, you can cut the right length of solder off, to space it out and go around and that worked for me, on my 455. These go between the aluminum adapter block and the starter itself, then bolt them back together, and then bolt back onto the engines. Hot Rod ingenuity.

That should be the one for your starter, call Powermaster to confirm. There should have been one in the box.
Ok, I'll call tomorrow. Maybe they'll send me once, it definitely wasnt in the box. I just double checked.
Mine was bought a few years ago from them and didn't have a spacer back then either. In fact what they sold was not a spacer washer but a spacer plate, if I remember right, and cost extra if you needed one.
