307 start problem

It has been taking longer for the engine to start. It had been starting after two tries and now it is up to six or seven. This is only when it is cold. Once it starts, it is good for the day. Any ideas? Thanks

edit: it is a 307 from a '84 Delta 88.

This has happened to me as well. That car should start on the first or second crank if everything is set up correctly.
Check all of your carburetor vacuum modules to make sure they are not going out. You must disconnect the vacuum line from them and pump them up with a vacuum gauge so that they move all the way backward or forward, and let them sit for a couple minutes. If the vacuum is still holding, they are functioning correctly.

Also, your timing is probably too far advanced. Make sure you unplug the battery terminals to reset the computer after you adjust the timing, so it can re learn.

yours is an 84, so you have more things to worry about breaking. Lot of vacuum lines and plastic t 's on that one. some of the plastic fittings even have 4 junctions

Check all of your vacuum lines for cracks. 1 at a time like spark plugs.

Your egr valve could be stuck open.

Check your thermostatic (THERMAC) for vacuum as well. It is that plastic thing in the back/bottom of the air cleaner.

You will probably have to get a few different size pieces of hose and several different size fittings to use the vacuum pump on all of the various parts.

until then ... give it 6 good pumps and then pump the gas as you are starting it.

Before you do anything else, make sure the choke is working properly.

Remove the air cleaner, floor the gas once, and release it. If the choke is not closed, you have found your problem.

^^ I second this

My choke was working backwards. It was open when I started the car, and would close when the car reached 195*.

Not fun pushing a 4000 lb car off the road. I had to jam a screwdriver in the choke levers on the side of the carb to start the car back up

With engine cold, I pumped the accelerator once and it closed. The hoses looked good although I haven't had a vacuum on them. A pump is on my list of things to acuire.
