Looking to clone the 1970 hurst olds
I"ve been toying with the ideal of cloning the 1970 cutlass sx hurst olds. Is there any good pictures or details out there to pull this off. I know of the one picture on the web but was hoping on more information.

X2 One of my favorite combo's, the Supreme roof-line w/ Black & Hurst Gold popped. The door decals though seemed proportionally too large. Still another 'what might have been...'

Pink order form shows a 10-15-69 order date for a black SX W32. Pink form shows "Magazine Test Car, Hurst Prototype". Order card is dated 11/25/69 to J. Wangers, Hurst Performance. "1970 Hurst Prototype Car per J. Beltz(?)". "Special Instructions: SX, W32, add W25."
The car was then sold on 3/12/70 to Key Olds. The Mattioli family, owners of Pocono Raceway, had it for a number of years then it was purchased by the current owner (as of about 5 years ago) at a NYC metro salvage auction in 1978. Got smashed head on and had damage back to the firewall. That's where the trail ends.
What a great looking car. The first SX I ever remember seeing in the late 90s was in an ad by a guy liquidating a huge junkyard-style collection in Alabama. The Hurst car reminded me of that one immediately. I hope it was rescued.

Car was built in November 1969 and was off to Key Olds by March 1970. From the pic, I'd agree with you though. I just realized that the black Olds is barely in this pic too, presumably taken the same day and place. I just saw that exact Chrysler at MCACN last week - it was really cool.

I also just found that I created a web page with all the documentation on the car several years ago. Forgot about that. Enjoy:

Unfortunately the car has been sitting outside for years, and currently is not a pretty site. The car has a 1 of 1 rear spoiler that never made it into production. I spoke with the current owner of the original car earlier this month and unless it has sold since then, the car is not in Illinois.

I agree. The door decals take away from the car, but I'm sure they were oversized for their advertising effectiveness. I would leave them off the finished clone.

This is the only photo I know of but I have copies of the order sheets showing all the options that were on it. Good luck with the power sunroof! The original car still exists, albeit with a wrecked front end. Hope it finally sees daylight and restoration shop someday.

Was it sold to Key Oldsmobile in Michigan or another state?
I wonder if the Hurst Corporation has any additional photos, or maybe the Pocono Raceway/Dr. Mattioli's Family might have additional photos.
Rats...to now know that the Hurst was only a few miles away and never knew it.

I do not see the W-25 option penciled onto the Cutlass Supreme Wholesale order form like the W-32 option, or listed on the bill of sale, but they are a bit blurry on my computer and I might be overlooking it. It may had been shipped later to Hurst for the prototypes conversion if it was erroneously not included on the order form or Hurst decided later to add the W-25 package.

Oops....did not notice that instruction. What is this form used for? It looks like a sign out and usage log for a particular vehicle. Just curious Terry, do you know why the W-25 was noted on this form and not the Wholesale Order form?

1970 hurst
revisiting this tread. I've been contacted by a magazine editor and a restoration shop who would love to restore this car. Reaching out to get someone who can get me in touch with the owner. A cash reward
thanks

The car is very rough. The owner does not want to be bothered by people inquiring about the car. Have pictures of the car from approximately two years ago...not pretty.

Great discussion! I never knew about this 1970 Hurst / Olds prototype before I read this thread. Since it sounds like the original car is "gone" it would be neat to build a clone for it. As far as the roof, a section from a 1972 Cutlass or Skylark could be used.
For what it is worth, I am aware of 2 businesses that went by the name "Key Oldsmobile":
For what it is worth, I am aware of 2 businesses that went by the name "Key Oldsmobile":
- Key Oldsmobile (later Key Motor Mall once they started selling Nissan and Isuzu alongside Oldsmobile) was an Oldsmobile dealership at 2446 E 12 Mile Road (near Dequindre) in Warren, Michigan, exactly two miles east of GM's Warren Technical Center. Key Motor Mall closed in the late 2000s. It has an unusual showroom which can be seen here. This site is now home to 3 businesses: Madani Muslim Community Service (in the old new car showroom), M53 Auto Sales (at the former used car lot) and Tech2Auto Collision (in the former body shop).
- Key Oldsmobile was a stand-alone Oldsmobile dealership located at 5711 Scarborough Boulevard in Columbus, Ohio. This became a used car dealership in 2005. This address is now Germain Toyota

It appears someone else had a similar idea as Vanguard Motors in Plymouth, Michigan had a similar "clone" for sale back in 2015:
Vanguard owns their inventory and buys vehicles from both classic car auctions and local sales.

I recall from somewhere ..... ?
the original '70 Hurst/Olds project "CONCEPT/IDEAS" became the RALLYE 350 after management (& vision) at Hurst and/or Oldsmobile changed
& the above '70 Supreme would've been a one off HURST promotion car (and eventually the basis for the returning '72 H/O)

Numerous people have confirmed that location is York, PA. Evidently there was a drag strip there back in the day.

This car came out of Perkasie, PA. The previous owner (Aaron) lost the car due to the aftermath of foreclosure. Sad story actually as Aaron died shortly after losing the car. Aaron's Mom thinks the stress of losing the car contributed to his death. Front clip was missing after taking a hard hit, think back in the '70s, may have had frame damage as well, not sure. Not much left and/or salvageable of the original car after sitting outside and unprotected for many decades. Cool, "one of" rear spoiler. If farmed out, this car will take a LOT of money and hours to restore.
