Alt. Alignment

Having an issue with belt alignment. Could I have a different alt. That would cause this?

Alt. To PS pump.

No. Nearly all GM alternators with the 12/6 moutning ears have the same major dimension between the front of the mounting ears and the pulley groove. Most alternators use a spacer on the shaft, so yours may have been assembled incorrectly although the spacer is usually ~1/8" and the alternator won't spin clearly without it.
It looks like the alternator is a little offset rearward compared to the upper bracket. It should have the wide ear in that bracket with no washers or spacers.

Most likely culprit is mismatch of brackets, or some wildly abused alternator.

... Or you're missing the two p/s pump bracket spacers...

Except that pushes the PS pump forward, which would make the problem worse.

Given the variances in mismatched alternator and PS pump brackets and pulleys, how does the alternator align with the crank and water pump? If it matches, the problem is with the PS pump. If it doesn't, the problem is with the alternator.

It aligned when it left the factory...

Do you have the large washer installed between the pump and the pump bracket? Similar to the washers on the intake manifold bolts.

Did exactly that the alternator is good with the crank. It was the PS pump and the spacers. Checked everything after install and finally something good with this engine build. Well the heads torqued down just as they should. Engine now completed - AC. Thank you Joe.
And everyone else that replied. I'm taking some time off.
