1967 Climatic Combustion Control

Does anyone know if this setup was used on 442's?

Sorry, it had rust and had been sitting for about 15 years before I got it. I dismantled it. But looking back, it had some rare options on it and I wish I had been able to save it. I do have a 1966 Toro parts car that's pretty complete, plus odds and ends from a couple more 1966 & 67's. John

Oldsmobility has an old Motor Trend article that says the K50 Engine Air Induction System/Climatic Combustion Control option was available on all two and four barrel engines, if it's to be believed.
It came standard with the Turnpike Cruiser option but that was only available on the Cutlass.

The K-50 air cleaner was used in 1967 only engines across the board except 6 cyl. The main difference is going to be the exhaust heat tube and the flexible tube going to the housing. Some were flexible tubing such as what you have on your Toro and some looked like radiator hose.

Hey 2blu442,

Years ago I had a 1967 442 with the K-50 option. Now I have a 1967 Turnpike Cruiser that I would like to put a four barrel on but keep the stock look. So what I am after is the air cleaner, carb and intake. Do you have any of the parts?

Also there is a guy that is making a overlay/decal for the lid but I can't find the link now, do you have it?

My '67 442 shows the K50 option on the window sticker. It had a chrome snorkel air cleaner on it when I bought it though.

The 1967 442 I unfortunately sold a few years ago (my biggest mistake in life so far) had it too..it was a true 442 with some very odd options..
Climatic Combustion Control
Front Disc Brakes
Power Windows
Power Antenna
and bench seat with column shifter..

here's a pic of the engine compartement...it was all stock...untouched engine. When I got it in 2001 it even had it's original spark plug wires (date coded 1966) on it...I still have them...

Just found this thread. My 67 Cutlass Supreme has this breather and gets so many positive comments. Funny thing though...Everyone ask Me " What is Climatic Combustion Control " And I always say " Good question" ...HeHe

It is a performance enhancer in terms of bringing the car up to temp faster and regulating the intake air temp. There is a clamp on shroud around your right exhaust pipe with holes and a hose going to the air cleaner and that is the hot air source. The right inlet on the air cleaner is the underhood air source. The left inlet is an additional underhood air source for max performance.

There are two vacuum motors, the right side one is thermostat controlled via a bimetallic thermostat inside the air cleaner. If the air inside the cleaner is below a set range of 90 to 120 deg F, the air cleaner pulls air from the hot air source. If above, the vacuum is dumped to the motor, and the spring pulls the right side inlet door open and you pull in underhood air from the inlet.

The left motor and inlet does nothing on 2 barrel 330s. If you have a bigger engine, WOT and loss of vacuum will ALSO pull the left door open, and you will then be sucking air down both inlets. Once you let off, the left door will close, and you will be back to whatever the right side is doing based on your air cleaner temp.

With the engine off, you lose all vacuum, and it should haul both doors open, but that may only be if the engine is hot.

It's a predecessor to the chimneys and heat risers seen on the 70s cars.

67 had a buck ton of air cleaners. A normal 2 barrel, a normal 4 barrel, this thing, 3 442 only ones, and a OAI. Seven I think.

That's the best diagram of how 1967 CCC works I've seen. Where'd you find it?


67 had a buck ton of air cleaners. A normal 2 barrel, a normal 4 barrel, this thing, 3 442 only ones, and a OAI. Seven I think.

Add in each carline had its own version of the CCC aircleaner, and things really get interesting.

Do these breathers break down mechanically ( springs,vacuum,sensor,etc.? ) and will they effect the way the carb performs? ( feeds the carb with more air for performance....) ...Curious.. Also is there a original decal that can be bought for ( Combustion Control ) or an a pliable template of sorts..( not the computer generated one posted for a 100.00 )

I have a 2V version if anybody needs it. The decal pan is missing but otherwise in great shape.

There is a difference between a stencil and a decal. Good luck getting the decal to lay flat on that curved surface.
