I just got some 17x8 rims. At what size will the ride become rough?

I'm thinking 275/50/17 tires, I've seen 40s on some rides but I'm not sure if that would be too rough of a ride. Any experience or suggestions?

A 235/60-15 tire and a 235/50-17 tire are within a tenth of an inch of the same outside diameter. The difference, however, is that the 15" tire has 5.5" sidewalls and the 17" tire has 4.5" sidewalls. That WILL make for a ride quality difference.

Same thing for the 255/60-15s and 255/50-17s.

I am running 245/45/18 in the front and the ride is fine, off course the QA1 adjustable shocks helps too.

You haven't seen some of the roads out here.
Granted there are not as MANY potholes as in the salt belt, but some of them can get pretty horrendous.

(I'm from the Chicago area)
