I have a '66 Cutlass Conv. and my wife and 3 daughters enjoy it very much... mostly me though. I have two original lap belts in the rear but would like to add a third so all my daughters have a belt. Is anyone parting out a Cutlass with the Deluxe stainless steel seatbelts with the carriage logo on the button? Anyone have any suggestions on installing an extra belt? I thought it may be as simple as removing the rear seat, drilling two holes, and simply bolt them in, but things are never that simple with me. Any advice, leads or experience would be welcomed.

Your car should have come from the factory with three sets of lap belts in the rear. Pull out the seat bottom and check to see if the third set fell down under the seat.

If the third belt is not there, adding it is trivial. The center belt is held with the two existing bolts that hold the inboard ends of the outer belts. Just unbolt theses two bolts, stack on the center belt, and retorque.

This is good. In my opinion this is a perfect example of the true purpose of these sites, or at least this one.

 

I had to add all 5 seat belts to my '64 Cutlass. I went to http://www.andoauto.com/seat_belts3.htm and got 4 plates for the back seat (the front seat had the mounts built in, go figure) that mount to the floor pan. The plates strenghthen the connection (a lot over a bolt and a washer), and also provide a mounting hole for the hardened seat belt bolt that comes with. They were easy to install, 4 smaller bolts hold each plate, just drilled them through the floor plan (check underneath first so you don't drill through a brake line or something) and attached with nylock nuts.

I was able to go forall new buckles cause I had none, so I went to the seconds at Andover, and bought funky colored belts that had the buckles I wanted (chrome flip aviation style), also bought a bulk of proper cololred belting, and then sewed my own. It was way cheaper.

As for your specific buckle, junk yards have those GM buckles by the hundreds.

I REALLY like those flip style buckles. And that is a great idea about matching the webbing to your interior. I might just do that to my '46, as everyone probably knows, back in the forties seat belts were for airplanes .

 

Thank you for the additional info. I now have three functioning original belts in the back for all three kids. Now... If I could just make the car seats out of black vinyl and chrome, it would be perfect.
