question on tire width?

i recently saw that american racing offers 17x11's torq thrust II's would those fit under a 70 cutlass? they are a 4 and 3/4 bolt pattern, would they be to wide for the rear end?

here's the link

It's unlikely the 11s would fit, but again, what matters is wheel offset and tire size.

I agree with Joe, the offset might be critical. Years ago I put a set of 295/50/15 on my 1971 supreme, that's about a 12 inch footprint. That was with a wheel that had zero offset. They looked great! filled out that huge rear wheelwell. But... if I cornered hard or in town driving into a parking lot where you drive through the ramp in the sidewalk, the inside of the tires rubbed. It was fine straight and flat, but when the body rolled the tires were too wide. If I remember right the wheelwell is 14 inches wide, but it needs more than one inch on the inside for suspension/body movement. John
