Dyno Testing the Big Block Olds Part 10
Dyno Testing the Big Block Olds Part 10
Here is the next write up. I'll be headed back up north to test the engine on February 12th through March 1st. I do have some help already lined up. Probably my oldest friend that isn't a relative, Chuck, is coming back to MI from the Peoples Republic of California to help out for a week (2/15-2/21). I think Dave Matlock (also a really good guy) may be coming out for some of this testing (now that I've figured out the dates). I have a few more people that may also come out now that the dates are locked down. There is a LOT work to get done over these two weeks, but I think we can get it done with enough help. I know Ron is taking off work on 2/13 so we can run the Batten heads and he will be taking off work the entire second week I'm up there. With a few more people we can move mountains! The engine will come out of the cell twice, once for the high compression pistons and then, hopefully, to be swapped with a fresh short block. We will fully rebuild the engine that's in the cell and hopefully assemble another engine.
Here is a summary of what this write up contains.
Flow number correction on FCR heads
Detailing the prep on the Batten heads
Detail prep on Batten big block intake manifolds
Exhaust port alignment examination of the poor performing PDD ported Gen3 heads
Installing and testing crankshaft mandrel to drive accessories
Moroso vacuum pump testing, again
More valve lash comparison
2" to 1 7/8" header testing at almost 600 HP
Testing a SuperSucker on a Dominator
Back to back testing of Victor vrs modified Torker
Testing of 950 CFM Dominator, 1000 CFM 4150 carb and 1600 CFM Dominator
Testing CFM ported Gen2 heads against PDD ported Gen3 (spoiler alert, the CFM ported heads are much better)
Testing the engine on methanol
Miscellaneous comments and observations
Conclusions
Next steps
