im planning on repainting the 71 cutlass i picked up simply because it has all these little cracks all over in the paint,(and it needs body work). so i wanted to know if i change the color of the car seeing as there werent any records what car was what color, is it really gonna matter at all on being origional paint color? will the value go down? im more of a new school car guy, so please excuse my ignorance or lack of knowledge. but i picked this thing up dirt cheap and want it to be worth as much as possible when i get done with it.from what i can tell, the car has been painted before cause u can see a tape line on the pass side window trim. color of car is in avater

Paint it any color you want unless it is really rare and special. ie 1970 w-30 4-speed conv.

Unless you paint it a really wackie color it is not really going to make that much of a difference.

It is one reason i got a basic conv. not a 442 so I don't feel the need to keep it orginal.
