OEM Paint Codes

I have a 69 Cutlass S Convertible and need to determine the original color. The car has been painted blue by a previous owner, but looks like an aqua green when I removed the fender badges. The hood has been replaced at some point as there's a different color green under the blue there, and the driver's door has been replaced as it was gold under the blue. Does anyone have the OEM paint codes. The passenger door, rear quarters and trunk all had the same aqua color as I found under the front fender badges.

1. Can anyone tell me how to convert the VIN tag codes to OEM paint colors?

2. Does anyone have a current paint code for Nassau Blue? Thinking of painting it this color - it's close to the blue it's worn for the last 15 years at least, but nicer.

Thanks!
Garth

It sounds like it could have been Tahitian turquoise.
Here is a link to a previous thread on paint codes for 1969.

If you post you cowl trim tag info someone here will tell everything thing that tag tells. Paint, interior colours, build date etc.

Here is the '69 paint chips.

69 = 1969
336 = Cutlass V8
67 = Convertible
BF = Fremont, California assembly plant
00442 = Body unit # no relation to VIN
930 = Black themed interior with Strato bucket seats
55 = Tahitian Turquoise "lower" body color
B = Black Top
02A = 1st week of February 1969 build
887136 & 230238 are plant sequence #'s pertaining to the build and can be found on the build sheet(s)
I hope this helps

Is there a code on that plate that tells you if your car had a vinyl top, or not? Something tells me my car once had a vinyl top. It's been painted twice before I owned it.

Yes Eddie, if it is a hardtop between the years '69 - '72 it would have a letter for the vinyl color instead of a two digit code for the "upper" color. Example 1971 442 Viking Blue with white vinyl top would read 26 A on cowl tag.

Tahitian Turquois is a pretty good looking color. Anothe member had a '69 442 in that color looks good.

Yes, the Tahitian Turquois is a nice color, but the wife and kids prefer the Nassau Blue. And, I inherited the car from my younger brother who passed away 7 months ago, at far too young an age, and Nassau Blue was one of his favorite colors too, so that's what it's going to be.

Does anyone have a current code/formula for the correct Nassau Blue?

We've just completed some rust repair and fixing a sagging door. The car's been primed and is being blocked now. It will be painted and buffed next week, then all the trim and bumpers go back on the following week. So, I hope to be driving it again in 1-1/2 weeks.

Thanks!
Garth

You should be able to take the original paint code for Nassau blue above to a paint dealer and they can translate it to a new paint, there's a website that has the new equivilants but I can't find it right now - its been posted many times on here before

1972 Radiant Green

I’ve got a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Looking to paint it Radiant Green the original 1972 color with a bit more metallic shine of modern paints. With white stripes on hood and down side. I’ve seen some great representations online but when I look up radiant green Oldsmobile cutlass I see a handful of different shades that look very different to me regardless of the poster, calling it radiant green. The body shop. I’m using uses Sherwin-Williams paint code system.
he’s having a hard time finding 1972 Oldsmobile radiant green paint code 36 in his system or a matching color code.
looking for some advice to ensure I’m getting a true original color and not something that looks too turquoise or just simply wrong.

You realize that you are posting on a 13 year thread, right? The link I provided above should still work. Have your body man look there.
