I didn't want to spend the money to have my hood hinges re plated, so I used Eastwoods Detail Gray. I think it looks pretty close to the phosphate finish. They have a Gray Phosphate product but it looked a little light.

 

Looks pretty sharp. I want to paint mine but I'm not crazy about aligning them. Did you drill locating holes or anything? Is that what the two small holes are?

Whatpaint you use on the spring & did you make a jig to hold the coils open for paint? Cuz it looks nice!

For the springs I used Rustoleum semi gloss black. I took the springs off and painted the hinges in the open position. I was worried it would be a problem getting the springs back on but I just taped a flathead screwdriver and got em back on.

 

necessity is the mother of invention right...well they came out very nice. I've been researching black phosphate dips, but will have to wait till the weather is warm enough to do it outside, the acids are pretty bad.
