How To Remove Steering Wheel?
How To Remove Steering Wheel?
First of all, thank y'all so much for the help you've given me so far!. This car needs alot of work and some of the problems I'm having, I haven't experienced before. So, thanks!
The car is a 1968 98. And I can't figure out how in the world the steering wheel is supposed to come off of the column. I've taken off all of the various pieces, like the adjustment pieces for the column that are within the steering wheel and all of the plates. I've gotten it down to the wheel itself and have the nut off of the screw threads but is it pressed onto there? I really can't get it to budge and it is aggravating me! Thanks again!

or any similar puller
If at all possible I highly recommend fabricating spacers [like 1/8" pipe nipples] to go between puller main body and steering wheel, so that your bolts to the steering wheel support the puller rigidly.
Otherwise they tend to topple over sideways if the pull Is tough
use grade 8 or better bolts.
Apply force, if no joy, strike the end of the puller forcing screw
repeat.

Is this a tilt/telescope column? If not, then use a puller as shown by AllanR. If it is, you really need to follow the manual. I did my 68 w/tilt-tele a year ago and the manual really helped. You will still need a puller, but there is a special tool to take the collar off under the wheel if you are trying to get to the turn signal switch...which are very hard to find replacements for. The rim blow steering wheel is another dilemma if your horn switch is bad (again unique on tilt-tele). See attached. Hope this helps, Dave
