1973 Olds 98 Parts Car

I got this for the engine and trans for my 71 Cutlass Convert. The rest of it needs a good home.

Any interest?

Make me an offer I can't refuse. It will be a month or two before I'm willing to part with it and I don't know what all I'll be taking off for the Cutlass. I'll post my progress.
Thanks, Jay

Sounds like a fair price + Shipping. How do you take them off? Where are you located?

Don't know what the wife has planned for me tomorrow, but will try and get over to the car and see if I can get them off and take to UPS for a shipping est.
Do you still want the rear bumper? My guess is the shipping on that would be a killer. I'll ask them.

I've got a '73 Custom Cruiser, and I would be more than happy to relieve you of the radio, assuming it works. I see that yours is AM/FM, and mine's AM-only.

Also, what is the condition of the chrome trim pieces around the headlights? Mine are pretty well pitted. If the ones on this car are half-way decent, I could be convinced to relieve you of those as well. Ditto for the driver's side mirror.

I'm in Ohio.

I had a front bumper for my '73 shipped from Minnesota to Ohio. It cost $100 for the shipping.

The skirts have a lever that you pull down to release it. If you reach up between the hubcap and skirt you should be able to feel it. John

Actually, as I recall, you push up slightly on this lever to unhook it, then push it slightly inward (toward the wheel), and then pull it down.

Well, maybe I need another cup of coffee to jump start the brain cells

Look for the lever and try pushing it the way Jaunty described. I'm not sure you can look up under there with the tire on. Somewhere I've got pictures from a set I used to have, if I can find them I'll post them for you. John

I've got a '73 Custom Cruiser with these exact same fender skirts, and we had a '73 CC when I was in high school. I remember removing these skirts every time I wanted to check tire pressures, wash the tires, or help my father rotate them.

I took the skirts off the car this morning and stopped by UPS. They want $69 to package in an oversized box and $88 to ship, includes $100 insurance. Or, they will shrink wrap for $10 and ship for $76 but no insurance if you go that way. They are in pretty good shape. Even the rubber seal is intact. The rust is just surface and not much at that. The chrome pieces have a little pitting but not much. If you want me to e-mail the high res pics then PM with your e-mail address or shoot me one at "indianabanana@nethere.com"

jaunty75,

Here are a few pics of the driver's mirror. Looks in pretty good shape. If you look close there are either micro cracks or scratches in the chrome. I tried to move the mirror from the driver's door console, but it wouldn't move.

Jaunty75, Headlight Bezels.

Here are some pics. They look straight. Both have very slight pitting, worst is the upper section of the Pass side.

Jaunty75,
I'd like to use the radio in my 71 Cutlass, if it works and if it will fit. Would want to use the 71 ***** and bezels. If I can't use it or it doesn't work, I'll let you know. It will be a week or two before I get to check it out. The pack rat chewed thru a lot of wires and I can't get power to anything right now.

indianabanana (great name, by the way),

Thanks for the upclose photos of the mirror and headlight trim. My mirror is about the same, and your headlight trim is only a little better than mine, so I'll keep what I have for now.

Do let me know about the radio if it doesn't work out for you.

Thank you for your efforts.

It's tempting. But then I'd have to find some tapes! Thanks, anyway.

WOW UPS is high in price, I checked with usps to get some shipped from California and it was only $25 for parcel post. Can you check with the post office and get a price from them, in order to package all you would have to do is cut cardboard the size of the skirts and tape them onto the skirts

Supposed to get the 71 back from the shop tomorrow. Lots to do for a Saturday car show. If time permits, I'll see if I can check the post office tomorrow. I don't have any cardboard, but usually the supermarket has a bunch. Will let you know.

Kaptain1973,
Here are some pics of the rearview mirror. The mirror would have to be re-silvered or replaced. The rubber is in good shape. The metal back would need to be sanded and painted but looks in good condition. It does "wobble" a little on the ball at the mirror (I think). That could probably be tightened up when you take the glass out. Fair price = ?? Plus shipping.
Let me know,
Jay

Kaptian1973,
Are you sure you want to mess with this old mirror? I just checked Cutlass rearview mirrors and they are only $60 new and clean. Your call.

Hi Indianabanana,

I'm interested in the steering wheel and the finger tabs on the Comfortron and the wiper controls. Would you be willing to sell those items? I have a '73 Olds 98 Regency in need of a steering wheel. Thanks.

LesterJ,
The steering wheel is in very poor shape. Lots of cracks and missing sections.
sm_SteeringWheel.jpg

Have another guy interested in the whole A/C Controller. If that falls thru I'll let you know.

Your the first for the wiper controls. I assume you mean the switch and push button for the washer. Any other parts of the wiper system?

Do you know how that part of the dash comes apart?

Hi Jay. Thanks for your response and pic of the steering wheel. I'm going to check my wheel when I get my car back from the paint shop and see if I might could use that one you've shown me. The entire back of my steering wheel is missing and there could possibly be a way to use the back part of your wheel to repair mine. I need to look at mine and see if that can be done. If the back of your wheel isn't all cracked up I may be able to use it. They look like the same color in the pic.

The other parts I mentioned were the plastic finger tips of those units, but I didn't even think that you might need them if you sell the entire units. I might be interested in the wiper unit so I can get the plastic end tip where you place your fingers to adjust the settings. I have one intact finger tab but the other one is cracked and doesn't stay put. So I need one for the wiper control. I have the push button for it.

Are the dash ashtrays clean like they haven't had smokes put out in them? I might be interested in them also if it's a non smoker car. Will post again when I get my car back and can look at the steering wheel. Thanks again.

Les

Yuppers, I think my enthusiasm got the better of me. Oh well. Three spoke telescoping is different from my two spoke non telescoping. I appreciate the responses however and am still looking. Les

Matt,
It's been crazy around here. I did stop by the Post Office Monday, but they would not even give me an estimate without the package ready and I didn't have them with me. I've got some cardboard and will wrap them up and get a quote tomorrow. Send me an e-mail at "indianabanana@nethere.com" with your name, address, zip etc. and I'll get a quote.
Sorry I haven't gotten to it sooner.

Matt,
I can now see why UPS wanted $69 for packaging. Will have to add a roll of Duck Tape to the bill. I put a layer of cardboard between the skirts and it has two layers of cardboard wrapping them. No guarantees that the packaging will make it in one piece.
I'll see what the post office has to say.

Matt,
Just got back from the Post Office and Home Depot. Duck Tape $6.99 + Tax.
Parcel Post is $23.25. No Insurance, No Tracking, No Guarantees, two weeks to get there. So let's say $90 for everything including a little for my time and gas money for all the running around.
I'll ship as soon as your check clears. E-mail me if you are still interested.
Jay

LesterJ,
I checked ashtrays. They look like they have been used but not much. The rear ashtrays are rusted on the inside. The surrounds and lighters looks pretty good, although they are covered in dirt. The front one is in pretty good shape. The bright trim is rough on the lower edge but could probably be polished out.
E-mail me at indianabanana@nethere.com and I can send some hi-rez pics.
