Long time reader, recently inspired poster.

Howdy from Texas.

My name is Isaac Rockett (No, I didn't change my name. Somehow that is my last name...) My nickname at work is '455'.

My car:

I've been reading these forums as a guest for a long while. I recently got inspired to haul out my 68 and play with it. I don't have much of a budget, but thankfully I have my own shop and a good bit of tools, a desire to do it all myself, and plenty of time on my hands.

I don't fully know what I want to do with this car, yet. That's one of the reasons I finally registered. I don't have the money or the desire to build this car into a showcar; plus it's a 4-door. Too many doors. Oh well. I still love the way the car looks.

There are a few mods I would really like to do, like a disc conversion, and possibly a rack/pinion. I have considered going for a 'retro mod' look, mimicking what younger guys did to their 10 year old cars back in the 70's. We shall see, lots of thinking to do!

Thanks man! I'm pretty excited about joining. I'm hoping to start a build thread in the next few weeks. Going to clean and re-organize my shop and get some racks/boxes/bins and hanging hooks set up before I tear her up. =D

gearheads78 - Yeah. I recently raised the price, and got it running. Unless someone walks up and offers me the price in cash, I'm going to start working on it.

Small world that you've seen it on craigslist! Hope you're not one of the people who offered me 400 dollars. I told about nine thousand of those people to go F%$# themselves.

I didn't feel like 1300 was too much to ask for a cutlass with a good motor/trans and a complete grill and bumpers. I just kept getting calls from people who think they can drive it to work every day in it's present condition.

And of course, every couple days there is the guy who's like 'hey mang, i knooow i gotta put a lotta money in this car. C'mon mang, four hundared dollars and I will bring a trailer out there tomorrow.'

All in all, I really like the way the car looks. You don't see a whole lot of these 4-doors on the street anymore, so I finally told the wife - 'screw it. i'm going to fix this and drive it.'

I am too broke to even try to lowball someone lately so it wasn't me.

Believe me, I know the broke feeling.

Do you do your own wrenching, GH78?

Welcome to CO, noeatnosleepRocket! Great group of people here, which you already know of from reading the threads. You are right, not many 4 doors fixed up, and they are GOOD LOOKIN'! Do it. Go to Hemmings stie, and click on Clubs, then North Texas Oldsmobile Club to read about our Zone show north of Ft Worth October 7-9 this year. Will be a ton of fun. Your car can be in any shape to attend, as long as it's an Oldsmobile!
