My 455 Red Monster

After quite a while lurking around and learning what I could from you guys, I decided to have cutlassefi build me a new 455 for my clone. For some background, I just had the 455 that is in the car now rebuilt and have had quite a time getting everything correct. It runs great, but not what I wanted. So, here is what the car will have in it when Mark finishes the motor. The car has a new rear end that is an 8.5" posi with 3.73 gears in it. Moving up to the tranny, I have replaced the TH with a 700r4 to get the overdrive. I will also install a 2800 stall converter. Mark can certainly correct me on these engine specs and will probably want to make sure the specs are right. I have asked for a build that will be a reliable driver that is around 500hp with multi port injection. The car will have power steering, disc brakes (front only) and air conditioning. I also have Dick Miller Racing headers for the new motor. They have 1 7/8" runners and 3.5" collector. I will then have a custom 2.5" exhaust system installed.

I am gonna post pics of what Mark is building. Did I mention that he is absolutely one of the most congenial people that I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Not cheap, not fast, but does things right and has been so patient and honest.

By the way, the reason I am taking all these liberties with the build is that this is a clone that is built on a one owner Cutlass S.

I am hoping that Mark will be able to post the Dyno results here in the next week or so. Merry Christmas to me.

That is sweet...I always wanted to do a 69 HO convt clone but this summer while looking for that I came across a 68 Cutlass S convt that I just could not pass by. So now my dream again is still just a dream and who knows might not happen...will see.

My 68 has a 350 2bbl with a 2 speed tran, I have a 70 455 sitting in my garage that I would like to dump into the 68 with a 700r4...I will wait and see how your turns out before digging in.

The 700r4 is great with my 373 gears right now. On thing to keep in mind is that the shift from first to second is abrupt unless you are really on it. Mine may be worse than some as it is a built unit without any stall converter at all. That will be added with the new motor.

crossing your fingers... hoping you don't break the dyno and have to pay for it?

What could go wrong?

Looking sweet!

You have to give me your red color code that ya used on your engine. That way when I get mine up and going I can also paint her red.

Thinking on putting on the Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner. Any clearance issues does any one know? Also any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I am pretty sure this is the paint he used. You can find it on other sites also. OPGI is ridiculous on shipping, so you can look other places. https://www.opgi.com/cutlass/C220132/

I don't know about the clearance issues you asked about. Mine is the direct input, so does not use hoses. Even at that, I will have to check when I get the engine installed to be sure that with the new manifold and fuel injection that everything will fit.

Thanks, but all the credit goes to @cutlassefi for the build. What a great country this is. Feed him money and he cranks out a great motor for you. But, the best part is that he partners with you throughout the build. I certainly left all the real decisions to him, but there were some items that he advised on and I had to make the call. All in all, he is a trusted partner in this process.

Thanks to Mark Remmel, it is almost ready for a full pull. Getting closer and closer. Should have the dyno pull early next week.

Dyno run will be next week. They were having some kind of electrical interference in the shop and could not get the motor tuned yet.

Happy New Year to me! Here is one of the runs and a sheet with results. The run on the video was earlier than the sheet, so the results are a little different.

I'm sure if anyone had any questions as to the price to pay for a great build from Mark, including myself, can now be rest assured that he can put together an awesome running Olds engine every time.
All cost aside, everyone will get more than what they paid for. It began with Eden's build and has progressed into something more than words can express.
No doubt in my mind Mark is the go to guy for an awesome Olds build.
This will be remembered when my time comes for a new Olds engine without a doubt!!

I almost responded that Mark is not cheap, but after thinking about it, he is very reasonable for what he delivers. My final price will be a little more than the typical high quality builds that one can find on Google, but I was not price sensitive, and got what I wanted. Mine will come with those sweet results that I posted and will include fuel injection along with a build that is very streetable.

I agree with you that Mark is THE way to go for an Olds build. AND, he is a quality individual that is great to deal with.

How come the dyno pull started at 4000? Would like to see how she fared down lower.

Simple, we didn't have the servo open far enough so it wouldn't grab it any lower than that, had too much torque for the servo setting.
May try again tomorrow but I need to do a bunch of steady state stuff so extra dyno time may be limited.

It is making a ton of torque. Where do you suppose peak torque will be at?

UPDATE: I am having trouble posting as I have such a huge smile on my face that I can hardly see the screen. Finally after months and months of anticipation, I actually got to drive my car for the first time today with the new motor that was built by Mark Remmel. I am blown away by the performance of the combination that I ended up with.

You can see about the build above, but I have never experienced a big block that is as responsive as this motor is. When you push the go pedal, you better not be kidding. 500 hp and 600 tq will get your *** moving.

Just a quick overview of the total package. Starting with the 461 under the hood that has the latest efi with AEM computer responding instantly to every command. The headers are Dick Miller Racing with 1 7/8 runners into a 3 1/2" collector. This all dumps into a 2 1/2 exhaust with Magnaflow 44's that sound great. The transmission is a 700r4 with 2800 stall converter and built to support 600 hp. The rear end is a new 8.5" Olds with 3.77 posi. New gauges in the dash, new Vintage air, new gas tank with internal pump, etc.

My wife likes to tell me that with all the money spent on the car, I could have bought a new Mercedes. But, who ever looks at a new Mercedes. I cannot go anywhere without making some new friends. I love my Olds and cannot recommend Mark highly enough. He has been more than open and cooperative through the process and I would never hesitate to recommend him to anyone wanting to build the best.

I will try to get some videos done this weekend. The weather here in Texas has been so wet, I keep the beast locked up to stay dry. Did I mention that I am still smiling?
