1966 442 Project Phase 2

Here are some fairly current pictures of whats going on with our 1966 442. The only picture of the "cart" I have is from the back with the car body on it. It's basically 2X6's and 2X8's with a couple of 2X4's for braces. The corners are 4X4 posts with rollers on the bottom. Other pictures are of the body in my friends shop in Brookings, Oregon (about 120 miles from here) and the motor on the dyno in the machine shop that did the rebuilding. We have set the original 400 aside and will install the 70 455 with nodular crank, 9.5:1 forged pistons, Edelbrock heads and intake, Engle cam, main cap supports, polished rods, shot peened rods and crank, Harland Sharp roller rockers, deep sump oil pan and HD pump with oil restrictors, Hooker Hedders and pretty much stock 1970 Q Jet carb. May change Carb. later. Set aside stock 4 speed and will be using a 69 Muncie. Frame has original 3.90 open rear end but want to go with a 71-71 Cutlass posi unit with somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.42 gears. Hopefully, will be setting the body on the frame and bringing it home by the end of the month. Am keeping my fingers crossed.

This is a great site. Thanks for all your encouragement.

Yes, Those are F85 Light assemblies

Yes, those are F85 tail light assemblies. The RH original 442 assembly was demolished when I bought the car and I had the F85 stuff from a parts car so I switched them so I could drive the car a bit before tearing it apart. I have new resto 442 lenses and bezels to install when the body is completed. The friend doing the body work needed the bezels to reshape the right rear light hole so I just left them in. Boy, hard to get anything past you guys. LOL>

HI,
Thanks for all the interest. The motor was done by Bullet Machine here in Medford, Oregon. I had purchased all the parts, mainly from Mondello, Summit and Super Cars Unlimited. I had the block, crank and rods from a 70 Delta 88 we had parted out a couple of years ago. Thanks for asking.

Finally got the car home.

Finally got the car home in January. It has been sitting in our outside shed waiting for the weather to warm up a bit. Last weekend, I finally spent some time with it attaching the core support and installing all the new body to frame bolts and bushings. Took a bit of time to get everything lined up but finally got them all installed. Next is to put the front inner fender splash shields on and then install them and the front fenders. We need to buff the paint when the weather warms up so the front end stuff will come back off for motor installation later on. Boy, remembering where everything goes is a bit taxing for my 66 year old brain. LOL. More later.

Wink Front Fender install

I just put mine on a couple of weeks ago. I installed them with the inner fender wells attached. Left the bolts loose in case things needed adjusting. It really went smoothly doing fender and fender well as a unit. Highly recommend this approach. Good luck with your project...
